choover1101
I am looking at an 05 Baja 2.0 Turbo. What do I need to check on this car? I have a 96 2.5 GT and a 99 2.5 Outback SUS. I know somewhat their quirks and needs. Are there any common issues that you can suggest I look into before purchase? The car is a Texas vehicle and has had the turbo replaced recently. I know the mechanic and trust him but he is not a Subaru guy. I will talk to him this week and see what all was done. Any help you can provide would be awesome. relative4
A new turbo is the biggest red flag on a turbocharged Subaru. Unless you REALLY know that the oil system has been THOROUGHLY examined for fragments from the old turbo, you should run, not walk, away. For the quirks of that vehicle, I would refer you to the 3rd gen forum and to your own expertise, since the '05 Baja is actually a 3rd gen 99-04 Legacy, not a 4th gen 05-09 Legacy. MilesA
I thought the Bajas had 2.5 liter turbo motors? It was the same longblock as the STI, detuned with different turbo and intercooler. New turbo is something you'll need to investigate. As relative4 was saying, if the old turbo died a violent death, it may have spread metal debris into the oil system which is usually a death sentence for the engine. If the turbo was just tired or making noise, the engine might be OK.
choover1101
Thanls for the replies. Also thanks for heads up on it being a 3rd gen. The thing I love about LegacyGT.com is how we all work together and help each other out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Yeti71
All Baja models will have a 2.5 block, turbo or NA. Also, while Bajas do share several parts with a 3rd gen Outback/Legacy, they also share parts with... well, they are just a strange kind of Subie-Lego. This can make finding parts a little challenging at times.
JmP6889928
Baja's are basically OBXT's. Remember that as far as brakes and suspension before worrying about making more power.
