Aok303 Posted October 2, 2017 Share Posted October 2, 2017 code p0304 p0303 p0301 Came on while driving seems a lil sluggish When stopped at light slight shaking as the rpms when down. that happened last night, so Today when started it, no issues up to idle drove around the block to see if it was just a fluke and it started to shake at 3k 35mph then went away seems its not constant and comes and goes while driving, car does seem slower at the moment Is this a spark plug or Coil issue kinda new to Subies but not to wrenching 176k New head gasket, new throttle body, new peddle assembly new belt and wp within 3k only owned the car for a month Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MilesA Posted October 2, 2017 Share Posted October 2, 2017 All of these represent a misfire detected for cylinders #1, #3, and #4. What it means is that the ECU detected several events on each of these cylinders when the power stroke did not occur when it should have. There are several possible causes for misfires. These can include vacuum leaks, ignition system, fuel system, valvetrain and pistons/rings. Troubleshooting is basically a process of elimination from most likely to least likely until the cause is found. The fact that these codes all occurred close to the same time, along with your other symptoms, and the age of the car, suggests a vacuum leak. The most likely places are vacuum hoses, turbo intake pipe, throttle body coupling. I'd suggest you start by pulling the top-mount intercooler off. Look underneath. Trace the vacuum lines around a blue plastic tee fitting. These often slip off. Use clamps or good quality zip ties to secure the vacuum lines. This would also be a good time to replace your PCV assembly, OEM part #11815AB711. This video may help you: While you have the intercooler off, check your turbo inlet pipe. These are rubber and eventually deteriorate and leak at the turbo connection. Throttle body/intercooler connection you will check when you replace the intercooler. Vacuum leaks can occur several places, so may be a bit of a pain to locate. You can spray carb cleaner on each of the vacuum hose connections and if the engine speeds up, you may have found your leak. You may also want to check for leaks at the intake manifold where it connects to the block. The gasket here can go bad over time. Max Capacity Posted October 2, 2017 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Check to make sure the thin black o-rings between the intake manifold and the TGV's have been replaced with the newer larger orange ones. You can see the orange color if you know where your looking. If you have an air compressor, use a pint size paint can to plug the hose off the air filter box to the intake. Pull the small hose off the blow off valve on the tmic. Give that hose a quick blast of air, put your thumb over the hose, listen for leaks. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). Aok303 Posted October 3, 2017 Author Share Posted October 3, 2017 it was Spark plugs, not being gaped and torqued in correctly, the smell of gas and really dirty plug, I hate the design of the spark plug location driver side sucks to do if it was a leak it would be more consistent, having alot of Audi's and built honda's i even own a smoke machine to test at home for leaks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
