Kurlee Daddee
So I went and test drove an 06 Legacy GT Limited wagon today. I want a sedan, but all they had was a wagon to test drive. Unfortunately it was an automatic, but I was VERY VERY impressed with the car. The interior was very nice. The leather seats were very comfortable. They were electric, had adjustable lumbar support, and were heated. I really like the LCD type gauges the car has. The gauge cluster is completely dark until you put the key in the ignition. Then the LCD gauges light up with a real cool look to them. I like the digital climate controls for passenger and driver too. The seating position felt perfect for my height. Not too high, not too low. The doors shut solidly, not like the WRX plasticy sound. The sales manager brought me out to a very nice mountainous road with lots of curves and uneven pavement. The wagon with the RE92's it comes with handled very well for a 3400 lbs. car. The road noise was sooooo quiet inside, almost like a higher end Toyota, but not as refined as a Lexus. The car has a very comfortable ride over uneven surfaces and feels very stable at speed. And then the power. I lauched the car from a stop and it definately has 250hp. I was impressed. I didn't think it was going to be that fast, being a luxury car, but it was. This car was an automatic, but had controls for upshifting and downshifting on the face of the steering wheel. So you could take off from a stop, redline 1st and upshift from the steering wheel to 2nd, etc. It was pretty cool. I personally want a 5 speed, but I was impressed with the automatic trans the car comes with. I am seriously considering the Legacy GT as my next car. But for my own sanity, I will test drive an EVO 8 to see how I like it. If I do it will be a tough decision. The sales manager offered a 06 WRX TR with a manual for a test drive so I obliged. It was hard going from luxury in the Legacy to Economical in the WRX. I did notice the lower mid range torque the car had, but the power delivery felt anemic compared to the Legacy. The notchy shifter is still there. And the noticeable turbo lag is also still there. I am convinced that I do not want to buy a WRX again, unless it is an STi.

johnny_m
Waitaminute, man. You test drove an LGT and liked it. You test drove a WRX TR and didn't like it because it didn't live up to the luxo-ness of the LGT. But you're going to test drive an EVO and are concerned 'if you like it too'? Aren't you comparing apples to oranges?
executor485
You will stick with the LGT... its more refined IMHO... Doesnt have the ricer race me look but all the ballz of one... If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off.

johnny_m
Sometimes you shop for an apple, but an orange overwhelms you with its goodness. I was just trying to follow Kurlee's logic. Doesn't like the lack of refinedness of the TR but is going to pit the LGT against an EVO. I hear there's an Evo wagon (but it's ugly). Ummm, ewww. That would be like an S2000 with a wagon-like back (the the old Z3's). PS: Thank you mods for bringing the DM smiley back!
Kurlee Daddee
Sometimes you shop for an apple, but an orange overwhelms you with its goodness. Here's my way of thinking. It may be different than other people. But bear with me. I had a Stage 4 WRX before I bought a SRT-4. I have an SRT-4 that is fast and fun but I am getting sick of FWD. I am starting to question myself as whether or not I want an all out sports car (EVO, STi), or a more luxurious car. So first I went and tried out the LGT to see how I liked it. So first I went and tried out the LGT to see how I liked it. Like I said I really liked the LGT and boy is it comfortable. And the only reason why I test drove the 06 WRX TR is because the sales manager offered me a test drive. I was also curious if it was that much different than my previous 02 WRX when it was stock. I did point out the similarities between the 2. I also asked to drive an STi so I could test drive a car in the Sports Car category, but they wouldn't let me. And I am in my 30's if that matters. So I will try and find an EVO to test drive to see how I like the car. If I fall in love with it, I will buy the EVO. If I don't and decide on comfort with power, I will buy the LGT. May not seem like a logical way of thinking. But that's the way I think through my ideas.
johnny_m
Ahh, ok. Gotcha. From the initial post, it was confusing why you were comparing the two cars. For the record, I went from an 03 WRX to an 05 LGT. While the WRX was fun to throw around, I've found that I like the refinement of the LGT. Do I miss the WRX? Yes, because it was a really quirky car for me. Would I give up my LGT to have it back. No. I am in my late 30's and no test drives for me either. It seems like STIs sell themselves. People who want them don't need test drives to convince themselves and dealers like to sell STIs with little to no miles on them. Hell, if I was buying an STI, I sure wouldn't want one that had a miles on it. Lord knows who 'drove it like they stole it' before me. My prediction is that there will be an LGT in your future. ping
I have a 5sp LGT wagon. It's nice and all, but I got to drive an Evo (regular) recently. That Evo chassis is simply something else. While the interior is pretty poor to look at and the dampers could use a couple of beers (didnt drive the MR) to loosen up, if handling is what floats your boat, nothing with 4 doors will beat it. Well ok, I have not driven an STi yet. The turn-in is insane, and it has very refined breakaway manners past the limits of adhesion. It will be on my radar when our household's second (my) car comes due for replacement. (3 years or more).
