Recommended Posts

Im posting this thread in both First and Second Gen.

Hello I was wondering If anyone could confirm this to be a good parts list for an engine rebuild.

Pistons JE 97.5mm

Main and Rod Journal size Id keep standard with a phase one 75mm crankshaft

Manley Turbo Tuff connecting rods

new 11mm head studs

STI OEM oil pump

.030 head gasket

ej20 heads for better flow

gates timing belt kit for ej20 heads

New harmonic balancer

AEM stand alone ECU

I also want a new exhaust system along with a wrx or a sti aftermarket turbo

Please tell me if any of theis parts will go through my engine I dont plan on using its full power with all of this but I want it to be their for track days ever once in a while

Pistons JE 97.5mm - JEs or Wisecos are good.

Main and Rod Journal size Id keep standard with a phase one 75mm crankshaft - Just get new OEM main and rod bearings. Have the crank spec'd at the machine shop.

Manley Turbo Tuff connecting rods - Not needed unless you are going beyond 400 whp. STi rods are nice and cheap. Your stock rods are forged and good for quite a bit of power.

new 11mm head studs - Not really needed, but nice. ARP head studs are a good way to go.

STI OEM oil pump - No, just use the OEM 22T pump.

.030 head gasket - 25D MLS HGs are good for some hybrids.

ej20 heads for better flow - Are you talking about 20G heads or S205 heads? 20G heads or 25D heads are a good choice.

gates timing belt kit for ej20 heads - Works great. Some people are scared that some of the components are now chinese and not as good.

New harmonic balancer - Sure, why not. But stock is just fine.

AEM stand alone ECU - Ok, if you want. Standalones can be a headache to get working properly but go for it. But look into a RobTune.

I also want a new exhaust system along with a wrx or a sti aftermarket turbo - RobTune will run a TD05 or 16G no problem, about 287 whp on a mustang dyno.
