subie bob
The other day i got a cel of cyl 2 misfire so changed plugs and it drove great all day i stepped on it a bit to get out in some traffic and it suddenly lost power and started running rough with the cel flashing pulled over made sure nothing had come loose and saw my up pipe glowing red around the sensor. Took it in to get the code pulled on it and its showing cyl 4 misfire now anyone experience this issue?
relative4
Take it you have an 05/06 with the catted up-pipe still in it? Once you've fixed the immediate problem, replace that pipe. This overheating will hasten its degradation and increase the chance of cat pieces torpedoing your turbo. Anyway, back to the immediate problem. When you swapped the plugs, did you move the #2 coil to #4? A bad coil will fail to ignite the fuel in the cylinder. That fuel will burn in the up-pipe cat, causing the overheated up-pipe you observed.

Put one of the old plugs back in number 4 and misfire has stoped for now a d glowing also stopped the new plug i pulled out smelled of gas pretty bad
Max Capacity
You may have gotten a bad plug or damaged it when you installed the new one. You'll want to get another new plug to replace that old one. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MilesA
Your cat may be clogging up. This could lead to engine damage. Replace that catted uppipe with a catless version as soon as you can. Don't drive around with a ticking time bomb.

MilesA
Ive been suspecting the same thing. Wouldn't a catless up require a tune? You don't require a tune for that. Downpipe, larger intercooler, different fueling, yes, but you can get away without it for just the uppipe. Using an OEM catless uppipe from '07+ LGT or compatible STI is pretty inexpensive, maybe $50-75. Installation is a pain, but not too bad with tools and a decent place to work. Max Capacity
You'll only need to install a 2.2k ohm resistor and plug the port where the where the factory EGT probe went. Any auto parts store will have a plug for that port. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MilesA
The workshop manual calls for: NGK 7913 SILFR6A Laser Iridium plugs gapped at 0.028 - 0.031 inches They are a bit pricey, but they work well and seem to last at least 60K miles. It's such a pain to change the plugs that it is worth it to go with the recommended ones and not have to worry about it. So, if you had a lot of unburned gasoline in the exhaust that could explain the cherry red catalytic converter. I would still replace the catted uppipe with a catless one, though. It's cheap insurance.

I am researching what up pipe i want to go with there is a lot of options out there
xt2005bonbon
I had the up pipe glow red once. This happened when I swapped injectors on the driver side bank and one injector was not sitting properly. So it poured a good amount of fuel in the pipe, thereby making it glow red. That was scary . So, for that to happen, I suspect you were misfiring pretty bad. Also, I got rid of it and now have a catless uppipe.
