I bought the car late june 2004, its been off ever since. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MilesA Posted August 8, 2017 Share Posted August 8, 2017 If you have the stock top-mounted intercooler, I think it makes sense to keep it. You'll notice the stock hood scoop has a splitter that channels air through an opening that mates with the top cover (at least mine does). The larger the volume of air flowing through the intercooler, the better it can do its job. The better aftermarket intercoolers have their own custom splitters to direct the air from the scoop.
