ProSignandDesign
Hello, So my Misfire on cylinder 1 magically went away a few days after throwing the code. But I do get an odd almost gas like odor, sometimes is overwhelming when running the car in S# mode. Im trying to think of scenarios, possible fuel air ratio off? Any ideas would be of great help. Thanks
MilesA
Do you have any other symptoms like poor idling, running rough, loss of power, bad fuel economy, etc.? Any signs of gas leaking around the engine? Can you smell raw gas under the hood anywhere? You might try cleaning you mass airflow sensor (MAF) as a start. Don't use carb cleaner, they make a MAF spray cleaner that is good. Put in a fresh air filter if it's been awhile. Oh, where are you located and what's the weather like recently? No raw gas, its more a sweet smell. Live in New Mexico, usually hot and dry have had some moisture recently. I will try to clean the MAF and get a new filter. Is it possible to have an exhaust leak or something?

Max Capacity
Sweet smell is normally anti-freeze. If the passenger side inner axle boot rip's that grease has a nasty odor. the 05's will have a gas smell in cold weather, 20F because some of the gas line clamps under the intake manifold behind the AC will weep until the engine heats up. 09's have been pretty smell free. Exhaust leak is normally noisy, open the hood with the engine running...see what you smell or hear. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. It smells like a sweet gas, but non antifreeze. The dealer I purchased it from took the exhaust from the downpipe back and put the stock back on. So it has after market downpipe with no exhaust. Does anyone know if that can cause power issues?? I requested the exhaust from the dealer, but they had told me they "Threw it Away", which they prob sold it. MilesA
I'm not clear on what you mean by gas like smell. Not a gasoline smell? What would you compare it to? Being knocked out with ether? Ripe bananas? Glue?
amm203
When the passenger axle boot went on mine the smell was only noticeable once the car was warmed up and especially when pushed. After taking a look there was a large glob of grease on the tranny crossmember (not unlike this but not nearly as bad). I didn't see any grease on the DP but I'm guessing it was being burned off. It was being flung out of the failed inner boot. The grease smell is a little like sweet oil at first but then has a rotten burnt egg after-smell.
