Ronin3.6R
Thanks... I guess I did not realize I had that major of a serpentine belt. That would be a bad thing to break.

That would be a bad thing to break. The 3.6R has timing chains instead of a timing belt. Things can still go wrong at some point, but not for a long time. ammcinnis
I guess I did not realize I had that major of a serpentine belt. You don't. No current Legacy/Outback engine does. GTEASER
Do not confuse serpentine belt with toothed timing belt. Brisvegas
Thanks Guys.... This a little more accurate then?/quote] Hi Ronin, .... sorry for any confusion, but I really only posted the first video clip because I thought the fact that it was a 3D print was pretty cool, I wasn't really worried about the accuracy
Ronin3.6R
No problem at all!. Thanks for posting. It got me looking around the web for another model based on responses. Most guys probably realized that was not 100% applicable to our modern engines but I did not. Now I do!
Jsmith
Thanks... I guess I did not realize I had that major of a serpentine belt. That would be a bad thing to break. Hey Ronin, that's the timing belt....definitely bad news if it snaps since they are interference motors. But as other have said, the 6th Gen Legacy' has a timing chain rather than a belt. PATS4LIFE
So only the 6th gen Legacy 3.6r has a timing chain? And 2.5 have timing belt?
Jsmith
Nope, the 6th Gen has a timing chain in both engines. I think Subaru made this changed during the 5th gen production in 2013/2014.

ammcinnis
Do not confuse serpentine belt with toothed timing belt. Thanks for catching that. It's an important distinction. So only the 6th gen Legacy 3.6r has a timing chain? And 2.5 have timing belt? The time to research important questions like these is before you buy the vehicle. Ronin3.6R
Hey Ronin, that's the timing belt....definitely bad news if it snaps since they are interference motors..... I saw this when inquiring about service intervals since I was curious- "Note all 2017 Forester, Outback, Legacy, Impreza, BRZ, Crosstrek, and WRX have a timing chain which doesn't need replacement"

YeuEmMaiMai
in 2013 the legacy got the same 2.5L series engine that was in the 2010 Forrester and that has a chain. the 3.6 Flat 6 has always had a chain as well
