TheUnsungWar
So the book claims that the transmission fluid is set within the casing and doesn't require to be ever changed... I don't like that. Can anybody tell me why this is or point me to a thread on how to change it? I know that I can drain the fluid by releasing a big star bolt, but I have no idea on where to insert the new fluid. Rossabal
Fill it through the dipstick tube on the top of the transmission.
TheUnsungWar
This dipstick tube is located where in the engine bay? I have never seen it.
cseagle08
Automatic or manual? For an Automatic - if you are looking at the engine, it's the back right behind the engine. The Front differential is back left - so don't mix them up.
TheUnsungWar
It is a manual. The only thing in that position (back right behind engine) I have noticed is the brake master cyclinder, the clutch housing and the powersteering for the clutch. It is quite open in that area. On the other side is the turbo.
RWebb
you need to take off the intercooler.
MilesA
you need to take off the intercooler. You can take off the plastic engine cover and use a funnel with a hose attached. OP, the dipstick is there to allow you to check the transmission fluid level, but it is also the way to put in new fluid. It's a good idea to check the fluid level regularly. Look on top of the transmission underneath the turbo. I interpret the maintenance schedule to say the fluid should be replaced every 30K miles. bluesuby
Removing the engine cover has always worked fine for me. I replace the fluid every 2 years which is probably closer to 25k miles.
