Starks
My oil level warning light has been acting weird lately. Once about 2 months ago, after about a 20 minute highway drive and hour rest, when I started the car the pressure light came on. I've seen the threads about oil consumption, checked the dipstick, it looked low, assumed it was a little normal and added about a quart, rechecked and to my surprise I was over the full mark. Light was off, very odd but I went about my business. Recently got an oil change did a 700 mile trip and in the last two hundred we stopped. Upon restart 30 min later the level light came back on. Checked dipstick and the level was at full. I drive the car about twice a week so between the oil change and the trip maybe around 70 miles were put on it. Dipstick indicates no oil consumption. What's going on?
FLlegacy
Maybe the level sensor is starting to go, not really an issue I think has come up here often enough to stick out as a failure mode.
cww516
Could also be that the connector is loose at the sensor, or that one of the wires is loose at the connector, but the sensor is there I'd start as well.

What's going on? So yesterday my oil level light went on when I was leaving work. My car was sitting out in the Phoenix sun all day at work so when I got home I let the car cool off a few hours in my garage. I checked the oil level and it was full. I left the car overnight and tried to start it today and the light is still on so I assume it is a sensor or short somewhere. Scal aGTact
Are you seeing the oil level or oil pressure light? They look similar.
ehsnils
Are you seeing the oil level or oil pressure light? They look similar. The pressure light is red, the level light is yellow. If it's the red light then it's most likely a bad sign, if it's the yellow and the stick shows an OK level then it's no big deal and probably the sensor or the wire being damaged. Starks
Definitely level light. Next to the abs light. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
GTEASER
Parking on slope surface messes with the sensor sometimes. I had it go once after I changed my oil on ramps on a sloped driveway making the slope of the car greater than it would normally be when the car is up on ramps in the garage. It eventually went off but took a good 10-15 minutes after I put a full 5 quarts in the car. cww516
So it'll hold a full 5 without complaining, eh? I may have to stop using the leftovers in the lawn mower and the snowblower, full-synthetic seems a little too fancy for those applications anyway. GTEASER
Yep, every time I change the oil in my EJ's, I put a full 5 quarts in. cww516
Good to know, thanks. My old Grand Am wanted 4.5 and took 5 as well, but I had a flat surface to work with (and a V6) back then in order to get an accurate dipstick reading. Now, I just look to see if I drain the same amount out as I put in, and assume that if there's oil on the dipstick when I check it, I'm probably in good shape. There's nothing flat or level about any part of my driveway...
