**OFFICIAL** Mid-Atlantic Spotted Thread... V2

I am from a small town of about 750. I want to get back to that. Ashburn is not for me.

Charles Town with about 15k residents, most shopping and amenities within 15 miles and a major metro 1-2 hours away sounds good to me. W Va is a constitutional free state too.

Sorry, not liberal enough to want to move to So Cal on the east coast. I dont like my current situation, so I am leaving.

I dont mind the commute if I get to go home to the country every day instead of trying to get out of suburbia and into the country every weekend. Sometimes less is more.

I will be out with the family to check out areas last week of March.

I had family from Harpers Ferry/Charles Town. The history is great. I love it down there and if it weren't for the rest of the family and my job here in the state of Cuomo I would be down that way. It is just south enough to have nice season's, great scenery and lacks the creatures that live in warm climates. Good luck with the move.

Charles Town, and Jefferson County in general, is growing at a ridiculous rate. Fifteen years ago there were fields and farm land, now most of the land that were farms are now developments with McMansions and rows of town houses. They planted some house seeds and in three months there three and four thousand square foot houses that popped up.

You will also be amazed at the traffic you will encounter in such a small town, especially through the weekend. People from VA, MD, and even DE make the journey to the casino and every hotel around has full parking lots from people staying the two days.

  • 3 weeks later...

Been in Va since Monday. Staying in Winchester until next Monday. Sh@t ton of Subies here. Not too many turbo cars tho. Passsed an immaculate 05-07 LGT wagon on the 340 today. Near the Va WVa border.

Loudon and Ashburn look like an east coast cali. Not for me. Sheapardstown is too "country" for the wife. But she LOVES Harpers Ferry. Several home sites and neighboorhoods visited on her list. Shes all over the real estate agent now. Shes even out speaking with a potential employer right now.

Going into DC with my 5yr old daughter to see the cherry blossoms tomorrow. She loves it so far too. She got to hand feed a wild deer at Harpers Ferry national park yesterday. If I had a rifle.... lol. Wife already says I can go hog wild for firearms and fireworks once I have a WVa license.

So, Harpers Ferry it may be unless a major change occurs. We still have more to see and some driving and traffic to explore. Hey mid altantic, look what the cat dragged in.

Entire day in DC, over 150 miles and no LGT’s :(

6th worst traffic in the US? LOL. Puhleaze. That ain’t s#&t. My current homestretch of freeway is the 3rd worst and it’s FAR worse than DC. NYC is worse and thats home. It was opening day too. If that’s all DC has I scoff at the traffic. Once I crossed the bridge on the 66 I was flat footed. There was literally NO traffic once outside the city limit at 630pm. Oohdalloy, oohdalloy.

Where all the turbo cars? Only 1 modified STi spotted. But, I hear bass :)

66 is HOV/HOT only for much of the day inside the Beltway. So it gets less traffic when it matters. Plus, I think more people are using 695/395 now that there is a direct link to 295 NB.

Honestly, 66 WB at 7pm is usually worse. So is 95 SB below the Beltway, or 495 around the 270 spur at, say, 2pm on a Saturday. :spin:

I think you can take either 270 or 66 out to Harper's Ferry. Both are fairly atrocious anywhere around rush hour. 66 sucks less past Gainesville, 270 sucks less past Gaithersburg.

Seems traffic is somewhat isolated near to or in the compact city.

So Cal sprawls. Normal traffic is solid for 50+ miles at least 12 hours a day. It can take 35 minutes to go 2 miles to the store on Saturday and thats in a suburb 75 miles outside LA. Traffic in So Cal never stops. 24/7 365. There is no rush hour its rush life.

I wont be in DC daily. Only when a job requires it. Even then I would rarley spend more than 2-3 hours in the city. My current large project is in Bethesda. Otherwise, I just need to be close enough to an airport as the job requires a lot of travel. Current airport is 52 miles from home going north on the 15, the 3rd worst traffic corridor in the USA. Harpers Ferry to Dulles does not seem any worse than my current situation, but puts me in an area of far more beauty and tranquillity.

Going back out to explore in a few. Its nice and warm today.

Why yes, it is. LOL. Late 80s/early 90s Miami bass to be exact. My Forester would fit in with the bass heads. But it is FAR more modified than anything I have seen this week. Maybe I should sell it in Cali where its in demand. Idk.

Took me 1hr 35min to get from Harpers Ferry to Bethesda this morning leaving at 630am. Made a test commute trip to Avocet to check out the traffic/drive. 58 miles there. Avg for San Diego traffic. No problem there.

Just got handed a job in Chestertown MD. Thats a bit if a trip no matter what.

No LGTs today. Again.

Work will take me north to Vermont, west to Ohio and south to Florida. The relocation is to the DC area. Travel is expected at least 30% of the time. I fly more than drive.

Most new construction jobs will take 2 years to complete unless its a retrofit. I dont work on the job sites daily, Im the PM. I will have up to 12 jobs simultaneously. Office is home.

Chestertown is one of those just close/far enough to be a biatch jobs. Gotta pick a home base and go for it. Being 50 miles from Dulles works for me.

Charles Town to Dulles took 45 minutes today at noon. ZERO traffic, zero LGTs. Guess the breed is dieing off nation wide.

Back to So Cal for now. Probably be back a few times over next 3 months. Planned relocation is late June/July time frame. Visited too many homesites over 3 states to remember them all without notes. BEAUTIFUL country.

There is a guy who lives right near me, a couple miles from Dulles, who has a perfect white LGT. Plate says LGT STI or something like that.

I will be in Chestertown, MD for a kick-off meeting on Thursday the 11th. Never been on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, or east of the 50. Maybe I spot some there.
Not likely. Relatively few Subarus in the flatlands.

I hear its a small town. But, I like (most) small towns. I will keep my eyes open for LGT's.

Fast paced job. They broke ground in 11/18 and want to occupy by 12/19. So, I will probably be back in town a few times over the next 8 months.

I still get one more house hunting trip if I want too. Plan to get more acquainted with the mid-Atlantic area. Dont see a lot of rental opportunities that fit the needs/budget and timid to jump in buying with so little background.

Man Chestertown is out there. Could not get an uber or lyft to pick me up. Hitched to Centerville and it still took 45 minutes to get a uber (no lyft) from there.

Was beautiful country still. I gotta stop for some sea food at Chesapeake Bay next time.

No LGTs spotted from Baltimore to Chestertown and back. Spent the night in Easton, no leggies sported there either.
