SWP-LegacyGT
it's letting you know that you can't because it would over rev the engine? Just curious since that's happened a few times.
Slickvic
I've never been chirpped at yet. Should I drive it harder and tell it who's boss?

Guest *Jedimaster*
The auto talks to you? I want that for the 5MT! You go for 4th and hit reverse, making a quick grinding sound- transmission says "Uh uh, you bad boy- wrong place, naughty boy". You successfully hit 4th and it says "Oooh, now that's the spot- doesn't that feel good?" This is all in a female voice (stephybiglips or andersoncollectibles can record the tracks) in case someone wondered.

kiem
Got chirped one time.. but upshifted quickly from the steering wheel and it never got engaged on that low gear. So you've got chirped, and acted quickly enough, you're fine.
sundodger
The transmission control unit (TCU) will not allow a manual downshift that would overrev the engine. The chirp doesn't require a response from the driver; it's just to let you know that you tried to do something stupid.

Do we have a limp home mode, that would prevent you from over revving and hitting the limiter?

melayout
You can't over-rev on the 5AT, since it doesn't allow you to downshift if it will overrev. Obviouslly, on the 5MT you can shift to a lower gear and cause an overrev(aka money shift). I keed I keeed
bdisco
overrev(aka money shift). Is Limp Home check engine / cruise control? Haven't done so with my Sube, but have with VWs.
melayout
I don't think there is a limp-home mode when you do a money-shift, cause even then you've either broken your transmission or engine, so a limp-home mode is useless.
