japeda
Yesterday I drove 300 miles in my 93 legacy and noticed squeaking (like a rusty spring/shock sound) over bumps, and when I turned the wheels. It became louder as the miles went on. It is much louder and more apparent when I turn the wheels left but also happens at some times when I turn it right. The sound seems to be coming from the inner CV joint left (driver's) side, but it is hard to tell exactly where. Again, it happens over bumps AND when turning the wheel. My guesses are the CV axle seal, or I could have misplaced the sound and it might be coming more from the wheel. Definitely does not sound like a metal on metal sound (like bearings rubbing w/o lubrication) but more of a rusty squeak. I reckon I'll blast WD-40 into the CV axle (the boot is busted but still has grease) and see if it temporarily stops the squeak. Probably time to replace the axle anyways and I could take a look in there and see. Just happens to be freezing montana weather and not ideal for wrenching. Any ideas? japeda
Turns out squeak came from a busted ball joint. I sprayed WD-40 in there and it quickly stopped the sound. Now working on replacing it.
