jkshaw345
I have a GT30 wagon, the check engine light has just come on and stays orange while driving - no noted performance changes. Is there a way I can self diagnose without having to pay a mechanic $100+ to do it? From a bit of googling I see that older models have plugs under the dash that can be connected making the light flash and give a code? Cheers. RustyRuu
go to advanced auto or vatozone they read them for $$free$$. then come back post your codes and we can help you out. or check your gas cap sometimes that can throw a code.

ehsnils
As I always recommend for anyone that take interest in their car to get a code reader. It may be very useful whenever you encounter an intermittent problem.

Great investment I've had it for 6 years and I even scan codes for my friends too.
xrayspecs
I went the cheap 327 Bluetooth scanner with the dash command app. It's been reliable for me. Hardest part is getting my son to leave the module in the car when he digs through the center console.
Andy_Mac
Connecting the plugs under the dash and counting the light sequence doesn't work on 2002 legacy's. Get a Vagcom cable. jkshaw345
Hey guys, finally got the code: P0031 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low(Bank 1 Sensor 1). Now I understand this is the front 02 sensor. For a genuine part and installation the local mechanic is quoting $725NZD, but I have seen sensors for around the $400NZD mark, installation seems pretty easy? RumbleRumble
Most autopart stores (here in the states) loan you out free tools, they have o2 sensor sockets. It's real easy with the socket. Denso is OEM for o2 sensors. The deal is just going to give you a denso sensor in a subaru box/bag.
