VF52 install.......how much time?

Recommended Posts

Buying a used VF52 turbo and would like to have someone install it for me. About how much time should that take? Not looking for specifics or anything on the install, just a ball park figure on time. Want to make sure I pay a good price for the labor involved in doing the install. Thanks!

Thanks guys. Yeah CapnJack, got an AP3 already, going to schedule a tune right after the guy does the install. It should be okay to drive the car a little after the turbo gets installed to take it to the tuning place....right? Like I'm going to coordinate it so the guy does the turbo install one day, then have the tune done the next day. Minimizing the driving in between. Would that be okay?

When it comes to intercoolers, I've found a really nice one through Grimmspeed which runs for like $800 - $900. Are there any other options? I found one on Ebay (I know it's not a good source for most things) from a company called CNT I think. They want $375 for it. Should I steer clear of that one? Here is a link to it.....

Grimmspeed and ProcessWest are about the best you can find, but you pay for them.

If you can find a used AVO TMIC, they are pretty good as well. Perrin units had some fitment problems, but worked well.

While you are doing the turbo, I would recommend you change the turbo inlet with either a new OEM one or an aftermarket. They tend to get brittle and tear as they age causing a lean condition. Perrin and AVO make good ones. I know there are some others out there as well, but don't recall who they are.

There should be a ton of used stuff on the for-sale forums.

Aren't the$e car$ fun!!??

I had a process west before going fmic and it fit perfectly. Process west are discontinued so you'd have to find a used one for sale. They pop up every now and then here. I've seen the grimmspeed and it too is a very nice

intercooler.

Like CapnJack said. I'd look at changing the inlet while your there. I have a perrin one. Its not a super fun job to do but take your time and be patient and it will fit in there.

Isn't injectors and fuel pump recommended as well?? I've had a vf52 sitting on the bench in my garage winking at me for months!!

Also wanting to do the upgraded tmic/fmic, fuel pump, injectors, fuel rails, and of course the turbo, all in one schibang... that way I'm not paying to *tune my car every other month $$$$

*Fwiw you can have Mike (the LGT Jedi master) tune your car, from Tuning Alliance, over the internet now that you have the AP. He will send you a map, download it from your CPU then upload it to the car. Do some data logging and send him the info- rinse repeat until he's satisfied, then enjoy!!

Likely half the cost of taking it to a tuner... due to having to rent dyno time, and Mike is one of- if not THE greatest tuners for these cars, EVER.

Good luck! Can't wait to slap mine in

A properly setup 52 requires more money in supporting mods than the cost of the turbo itself. Fuel pump yeah, injectors maybe -Probably an inlet, intercooler and most definately a 3" downpipe. EBCS too? $$$$

If you don't have a downpipe already make sure to get one before you pay someone to set the new turbo up.

I believe book time is 3-3.5 hours.

If you keep out of boost till your appointment your fine or you can loop the wastegate *ie run a vac line from the turbo nipple to the wastegate and plug the line to the ebcs. This will limit the car to wastegate boost.

We are happy to help with any calibration/tuning needs or parts needs and are an approved Grimmspeed vendor if you decide you want that intercooler *we think its the best on the market for an aftermarket turbo car*

You will like the VF52.

+1 for Dave! He E-tuned my stage 3 LGT and I was extremely happy with what we ended up with.
