Gigs 2006 Legacy GT Limited Wagon and STi Wagon

Recommended Posts

I basically have a habit of ruining my daily drivers so I will refrain from doing it again with this car but the goal is a comfortable daily driver that is reliable so most of the mods will be for reliability sake.

You can find my older build thread for my wrx here as well

Noticed the radiator is to seep a little bit from the top and I have a tiny coolant leak from the top turbo coolant line. Radiator can wait till spring but I will likely replace both oil and coolant lines when I go to do the banjo bolt removal.

I also picked up some 0w40 Castrol Syntehtic and 5w30 Castrol Synthetic for dirt cheap on amazon. Probably will run the 5w30 now during winter and the 0w40 during summer but I may do the 0w40 in winter once I get an oil test back from the 5w30.

Its a wonderful 14 degrees today in Michigan , This is our gass guzzler vip parking area.

Its awful , I should be out at Gingerman a few times next year when its warm out as I have a lot of seat time to catch up on.

2017 goals are track days bro

Maybe I should finish my 5x114 swap too and get some Feal 441 coilovers

I have STi pink trailing arms , lateral links and more suspension bushings waiting for spring along with a 2004 Sti steering rack.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the Lesbowagon started to pee coolant all over earlier this week but I had saw this coming and ordered a new oem radiator. I then limped it on over to a local dealer and had a friend swap the new one in along with some other service items.

Bugeye got a battery tender too yayyyy

136,000 miles

New spark plugs

New oem radiator

New O2 sensor

New Battery

Also fixed a few leaky hoses and such that were annoying.

Old spark plugs looked like they had some serious miles on them , O2 sensor was not really needed but it won't hurt and its one less thing to worry about. Car should be set for a long time now.

Well I picked up some deals during the holiday season for both cars

Legacy GT wagon is getting some Spec B Billsteins with STI springs , 225/45/R17 Continental DW tires mounted on 17x7.5 +48 TE37s.

http://i.imgur.com/g2PPhLi.jpg

Bugeye is getting a 5x114 swap , suspension refresh , Feal 441 Coilovers and 18x9 +35 Enkei RCT4.

Now I have to just wait for the other two 18x9 +35 RCT4 to show up as I have had two in storage for over a year now. I also have to stalk feal for more information on their electronic dampening system and hope that they have a tax season sale !

I am leaning towards this color like I did my last set that I was supposed to run and I kinda want to do it for the TE37s as well. All Gold everything or perhaps should I do the TE37s in a nice gloss black ?

Ordered timing parts and suspension bushings for the Bugeye today to come along with the Legacy suspension.

Just need a few more items then I will have all the parts ready for spring service , I still am debating doing a new R180 LSD as well. There is a local track group that is renting out Mid Ohio on August 28th which happens to fall right on my birthday weekend so I signed up to treat myself to driving a FIA grade 2 track and a nice long weekend !

Very cool car! What's the difference between the limited wagon and the regular GT?

I think there was only a difference for 2005 , This car has almost every option that was offered though.

Subbed! cars look great btw!

Thanks !

"For 2006, the regular GT was dropped" (source: Wikipedia)

As Gigs said, Limited was offered as a special trim level for 2005.

Nice looking cars! Keep the pics coming. :)

Damn near same setup I have, except I have 55 profile DWS06. You're gonna absolutely love the handling for a daily driver.

Yeah that is the idea , it floats over things on the highway and does not feel as planted.

I think a rear sway bar is in order too.

Doing some more research on the EJ20Y swap I want to do on this car and after talking with people who have done it and reading every post I can find I have come to this basic concept.

You will need to wire in AVCS and OCV lines for the exhaust AVCS then repin them on the JDM ecu which is identical to the usdm ecu except it has wiring going to pins for the exhaust side avcs. Then you will need the jdm ecu married to your immobilizer at a dealership or have someone with the correct skills do it for you. Alternatively people have had their usdm immobilizer chip soldered onto the jdm ecu as well but that requires a special set of skills.

When comparing say a 2005 JDM Legacy 2.0GT to a 2005 USDM Legacy GT oem tune the tables are all the same with the addition of exhaust AVCS tables from what I am seeing so far. Obviously the data in the tables is very different as you are comparing two very different engines that essentially run on the same type of ECU.

Things that I still am not 100% on would be the automatic TCU interaction with the JDM rom but the tables seem to be similar. Also sourcing specific sensors / parts for the exhaust side avcs might end up being a pain in the ass but should be able to be imported from Japanparts as judging by bugeye parts the BP/BL Legacy still has another 3-5 years of parts service from Japanese dealerships.

Man the 2018 STi is kinda sad , The brake upgrade is great but the front end is hard to look at and the interior is still pretty lackluster for a $35,000 - $40,000 car. There were some awesome race cars here too like the NSX , Ford GT and M6.

Signed up for all three days so I will get a ton of seat time , car will consume gallons of fuel and it will be glorious. Also going to be running on 5x114 STi bbs for the track as they are dirt cheap and fit a 245 easily. Going to run the RCT4 if it rains and when driving around town.

Things to do before hand now

  • 5x114 Hub swap
  • Suspension refresh
  • R180 seals need replacing
  • Feal coilovers
  • complete fluid flush
  • Timing and misc services before tracking the car
  • Maybe E85 and Id1000s ?

Digging the build, man. Wondering what is a good price on low mileage spec b bilsteins with pinks? Shopping around for my own, a ballpark would help greatly.

Shipping and conversion rates made my head swim looking last night. Thanks.

I would say under $450 is a good deal , Shipping in general will be around $150-$200 from Japan usually.
