bluesuby
Yesterday I drove out of the bank parking lot and felt the car lurch (2005 LGT Wagon, turbo 2.5). Made a stop and had a little trouble restarting the car. I thought it might have been some bad stuff in the gas but I'm particular about buying a name brand (Sunoco Ultra) and adding Techron a couple weeks before oil changes. Everything was fine today...until I stopped for gas. Pulling out on road Check Engine light came on and Cruise light is pulsing. I know the attendant screwed the cap on tight but checked it anyway in the AutoZone parking lot. Too easy. Cap is fine. I had the AutoZone guy read the code and it comes up as P0340. Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1. The Haynes manual describes the sides of the engine as "left" and "right". Which is Bank 1? I read in another post Bank 1 is the passenger side. I hope this is true because the passenger side Camshaft Sensor looks much easier to access. Is this a fairly simple job? Access from the top side of the engine bay? My sleeve length is 36 so reach is usually not a problem. Looks like one 10mm bolt retains the sensor. Can't be a lot of torque on that. Any advice or wisdom is appreciated. AutoZone sells a replacement for $68.99 with lifetime warranty. Thank you all!

The manual is very nice but I've never changed this sensor yet. Searching the previous posts didn't really address my two questions: Is Bank 1 the passenger side of the engine?, and is the sensor easily located and removed without having to tear out half the engine? Searching the previous posts didn't really address my two questions: Is Bank 1 the passenger side of the engine?, and is the sensor easily located and removed without having to tear out half the engine? Yes, passenger side is bank 1, #1 and #3 cylinders are on that side. Now O2 sensors, Bank 1 is the front, bank 2 is the rear in the down pipe The cam sensors are up top on the heads. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4768.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4769.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4772.jpg Edited November 30, 2016 by Max Capacity 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Lamb
I too have to replace the Passenger side Bank 1 Camshaft position sensor. Questions, I cannot find a good writeup for replacing. I've located the sensor, but the amout of wiring harnesses blocking it seems difficult to navitigate. Anyone have any additional pointers?
