Bringing non-emissions state car to NC?

I am thinking of getting a LGT and might go out of state for the right vehicle. If there is no emissions testing in the state I buy it, I imagine I could run into problems getting it to pass here in NC (assuming a car with significant performance mods would hurt emissions). Before I school myself on LGT turbo powertrains, can someone tell me from experience (NC resident preferably but similar situations may suffice) if I would run into difficulties trying to get a LGT to pass emissions here or what my options would be (I just found that there is an exemption I could pay for?).
