Your Opinion on Muffler

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so i've posted in these forums a few times, never get any responses. Idk if you guys see it and think this guy is dumb and dont bother or theres jsut so many posts no one sees mine. Anyway the muffler on my 2006 Liberty 2.0R is pretty shoddy and ive been looking into getting something nice, what do you guys think of this exhaust,

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ULTREX-DIFF-BACK-STAINLESS-EXHAUST-MUFFLERS-FOR-SUBARU-LIBERTY-SEDAN-MY04-09-/152173330159?hash=item236e3cbeef:g:Al4AAOSwFfhXjhl1

The seller has assured me that it will fit my model and I have looked into it and everything checks out for it being a viable option. Do you think this is a bit over the top? or are there any better quality mufflers out there at a cheaper price?

Well I'll respond, I think I may have to another one of your threads too, can't remember...

We normally don't recommend ebay parts. We like to buy from a trusted member or vendor on this forum. To many bad stories about ebay parts.

Have you tried to just un-bolt your mufflers, start the engine and see how it sounds ? There is a thread about putting washers between the Y pipe and muffler flanges for a better sound.

That seems like a lot of $ for eBay parts. I have a similar brand on my 06 LGT and it is very loud. The worst part is the highway drone. It almost make you sick because of the resonation frequency. Very annoying. Like I said, it us a different brand though.

Thanks for the advice, I thought ultrex was an ok brand, only ever heard good things about them. Don't really want to unbolt the muffler, and cant do the little washer hogzaust thing here cause apparently its technically illegal, or so im told. Just want something that look nice and add a more sporty grunt to my utherwise extremely quiet liberty.

They all source their piping and mufflers from China, so they're all pretty equivalent, even CNT. I'm not saying theyre bad, (I've used CNT and other ebay parts and have been satisifed with the dollar/performance ratio) just don't expect show-level quality work.

For the easiest, simplest solution, have someone weld in two of these:

They have sounded excellent on every single car I've heard them on including:

Turbo honda

Mazda with rb26 DETT (yes)

FD RX7, 13B TT rotary

hawkeye STI with 20G turbo

e36 BMW, turbo I6

I could suck start a snow blower.
