lee07
So the last couple of days after parking for a couple hours, it won't let me put it in any gears with the clutch pushed in. I just tried very slowly this morning pushing in the clutch and only then will it go in all the gears, but if i try again pushing the clutch in a normal pace, i can't. There is also a squeal, chirp noise while pushing the clutch in. Once its warm the car shifts normal, no noises until I park it again for a couple hours. Checked for leaks and fluid levels and they are all good at the master and slave.
RacerX69
How cold is it there? In freezing weather gear lube can become too viscous and prevent normal operation.
lee07
Teens yesterday and 30 today. Its been colder(below 0 without any issues going in gear.
Max Capacity
Just because you can do things in the summer time...doesn't mean you can or should do them... when its cold. With the engine running, does it shift normal. A little noise when cold is not that unusual when things are cold... well that cold. Wait till is get's in the -teens. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. lee07
Shifts alright/normal/OK I guess. Maybe it's subarus new gear oil, I'm gonna put red line back in and see if that was the problem
Max Capacity
The TOB will make noise sometimes until it warms up. Which fluid to use in these has become a mystery lately. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. lee07
Adjusted the clutch pedal. Works great now, with no problems going in gear and/or tob noise upon cold start up like it did before.
lee07
Spoke to soon. Its back. Won't go in/out of gear after parking for a couple hours. Just realized it will go in/out of gear if i rev the motor. So I'm thinking its something with the clutch/pressure plate/tob. Had the transmission rebuilt a few weeks ago, so maybe they damaged something while they were putting it back in. They'll pull it back out this weekend to see whats up
solidxsnake
Sounds like your clutch isn't disengaging completely, IMO. Potentially a problem with your hydraulics. See if you can get someone else to press the clutch pedal through its range and see how that translates to the slave cylinder's movement.
lee07
I want it to be, as that will be an easy fix, but doubt it, since it'll go in/out gear easily if you rev it. If you don't rev it, you can't put it in/out any gear. Slave cylinders moving and working
solidxsnake
I wonder if when you're revving it, the clutch starts slipping just enough to allow the synchros while you're putting pressure of the shifter. Seems like a somewhat plausible explanation if your clutch isn't fully disengaging... A quick test would be to shut the engine off, then try and move it through the gears with the clutch engaged (don't touch the clutch pedal). If you do it slowly/softly enough, you'll find that you won't be able to push the shifter fully into some/all of the gears (the dog teeth won't line up exactly). Then if you depress the clutch pedal, you should be able to fully enter any gear. If you're already in a gear, you should have next to no resistance moving into or out of that specific gear with the clutch fully engaged. If you're having trouble getting the shifter into gear with the engine off and the clutch pedal depressed, I'm willing to bet your clutch isn't fully disengaging. Either something went wrong with the re-assembly, or the pedal/hydraulics need to be adjusted.
lee07
I'll try that. It does go into any gears with the engine off and clutch in. Its fine once i drive it, with no problems going in gears afterwards. Its just after shutting off and sitting for a few hours, then it's locked up again. Just found this thread and I'm having the same symptoms as he is. His was the master cylinder http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/5mt-wont-go-into-gear-180010.html
lee07
Problem solved, was either the master cylinder or the slave. I replaced them both and its all good now. Thanks
