Double Din Kit Won't Fit

Hi, I wonder if i am the only with this problem. I ordered the double din kit from http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php?products_id=123. As i was installing the stereo i noticed that my stereo doesn't fit into the kit. The width of the kit is 6 3/4 inches where as my single din stereo is 7 1/8 inches. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks!

I measured my AVO double din and it looks pretty much the same as yours- somewhere between 6 3/4" and 6 7/8". My Pioneer double din head unit fits just fine though. It seems confusing that your single din wouldn't fit the same way since width-wise they should be pretty much the same.

Have you by any chance left the black surround attached?

Had to remove it on my single dinn Pioneer I had in my last Subaru, pretty standard practice for most cars.

That typically allows the face to fit the gap whilst keeping the main body the correct size.

I have the same issue I ordered a double din 7" for my kit and same issue opening of the AVO bezel is 6 3/4ths.... dec is 6 7/8ths.... so I will be doing a small amount of surgery on the bezelremoving a total of 1/8th but really 1/16th from each side. I will keep you posted.

I have tried that too. It is the body that wouldn't fit into the kit. The body is 7 1/8. The face plate should only prevent it from sliding out of its place. I don't really want to cut into my double-din kit... I'm thinking about getting a Metra-99-8901-In-dash-Receiver-Kit and cut that one instead. Thank you for all your help!

Do you guys think a Dremel is the best way to cut this kind of plastic? Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread. It is good to know that I am not the only one who has this problem! I'll post some pictures once it is done! reallyrottens, pix when you are done! =)

So are you trying to push the whole unit through the front opening? Are you using the secondary steel frame that comes with the HU and not the brackets that should have come with the fascia?

I know my one would have never fit through that front opening. The unit was installed with the fascia brackets and then the fascia slipped into position.
