Berkeley Jeff
Have a '96 legacy LSi Sedan, stock suspension, stripped for Lemons racing. Found some WRX 16x6.5" wheels and am looking to put some super sticky rubber underneath. Tirerack says 225/45/16 needs a 7" wheel. This tire would give just a bit more clearance at the rear strut than a 225/50/16. Anybody with experience know if that 50 series will clear? Not looking to lower the car at this time, possibly later. beward noobie with tech tire question. Jeff
93ej22
Anyone doing lemons racing deserves answers I want to do that so bad! I ca t help you on tires tho sadly. I have the wrx wheels with 205/55r16 like they came with. What is the rule on tires for the lemons?
Berkeley Jeff
The rule on tires is that they only have to have a 190 wear rating or higher. The Direzza's are pretty slick, half hoping for a dry track in December but if not it'll be a hold on tight ride just the same. Safety equipment including brakes, tires, wheels, roll cage is not limited by the $500 budget.
GTEASER
1st and 2nd Gen wheel and tire fitment is very very similar, if not identical. I had 225/45-17 with 17x7.5+45 wheels on my 1st Gen Legacy SS. It was very close to the spring perch in the rear, and I had to roll both front and rear fenders almost flat. Based on the link below, you should be golden with the 50 series tire. In the example below, I was assuming your 16x6.5 wheels are a +48 offset. You should still be fine if they are +55. http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=225&aspect=45&diameter=17&wheelwidth=7.5&offset=45&width2=225&aspect2=50&diameter2=16&wheelwidth2=6.5&offset2=48 GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold Stapp's Law: “The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle.” "Simple incompetence is a far more sinister force in the world than evil intent." Berkeley Jeff
Thats a handy reference tool. The new wheels are 55 so popped that in and should be good. Today we are doing door #s so maybe a pic later.

Berkeley Jeff
Alright, to follow up, the tire and wheel combo did fit. We ran the stock tires for a while on Saturday and they gave us no confidence in cornering. After lunch we took the time to put the Dunlop Direzza 225/45/16 on and boy did we put them to work. Night and day in grip. On Sunday after it had rained overnight and was still drizzly the tires and awd could keep us in the corners, slightly on the power and hanging with some much more powerful cars. Dont touch the brakes midcorner cause the back will step out and give you a handful but with the right speed, we could put it right at the limit and have a good time. I ran door to door with a nice mustang for 4-5 laps, his power was not as useful in slippery conditions as our subies traction. Good times and practiced a lot theory that will make me a better driver on the way to work.
