coop3422
Hey All, Winter is coming so the s2k went into storage and I’m back in the Spec B. I finished the stereo in the S over the summer and it sounds great. It makes the Spec B not as enjoyable, I have a mono and 2 10”s which hit well, but I’m not overly happy with the quality. I’d like to add a 4ch and new speakers. My question is; can I have 2 amps hooked up to the factory headunit? I believe my mono is connected via a high level input (think that’s what they’re called?). I would just swap the whole thing out for an in screen, but that is either way too expensive (JDM bezel) or I lose dual climate. Since the stock unit reads mp3’s, I just bought a bunch of CD-RW’s. It’s ghetto for 2015, but gets the job done. Thanks All!

digdug18
you can have as many amps hooked up to the hi-level output as you like, using a Y splitter or something. You could also go from your output into an EQ, then out to the mono and multi, which can make adjusting the system a little easier, but that depends on how much room you have in the dash. legacyshawn
do some searching for dual climate control headunits... its difficult. you cannot just swap to manual. number two, my setup on my 08' is using a line out converter like the audiocontrol lcq-1 to convert and sort of balance the crappy eq of the stock headunit before it goes to the amp. then run those pre-amps to the 4 channel amp and the mono block. there are line level outputs for front, rear, and sub. equally if you chose to go without the LOC, you can get a 4 channel amp with high level inputs that HAS a sub output. remember whatever you do, use the front speak wires to pull the sub frequencies as the the stock head unit has a low pass filter on the rears. youre going to need to do a lot of time searching these forums for some quality info. its out there just be patient. hope these help you as much as they helped me. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/stereo-install-sound-deadening-139454.html?t=139454&highlight=subwoofer+install http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/amp-install-walk-through-kinda-155968.html?t=155968 http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/supermooses-audio-install-picture-heavy-93803.html
snm95ls
From personal experience, the newer Alpine amps with high level inputs work out really well with the OEM headunit. Alpine's KTP-445U or MRV-F300 and a MRV-M250 pr MRV-M500 would all work out well depending on your budget and power requirements. I currently run a P204-UH radio with the KTP-445U to power all JL Audio speakers in the doors. I did have an MRV-M500 powering a 10" Bazooka tube in the trunk, but decided that rocking a subwoofer just really isn't my thing anymore. I tried using an Audioctonrtol LCQ-1 on my OEM P201-UH 06 radio, and it really didn't work out well. I sold that before moving on to the P204-UH, so no idea how that would have worked out. legacyshawn
Honestly it'd probably be similar sounding using the lcq-1 with the different radios. it's def not perfect but better than stock when dialed in. im running the p204-uh HU to the AudioControl LCQ-1 LOC to my Precision Power 900.5 5 Ch. Amp. This is driving Polk DB8501's (front) DB501's (rear) and some crap no name 10" sub in a sealed box above my spare tire. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/my-hidden-subwoofer-install-85965.html?highlight=spare+subwoofer
coop3422
Thanks guys, I'll start doing some reading. After some research, I saw switching from dual climate was not worth it. I thought when I looked into it last year that it was no biggie, but I was wrong. And getting an aftermarket unit is just way more money than it's worth. Will adding a 4ch make a significant difference in sql with the OEM unit? Someone local said it wasn't even worth doing if I wasn't replacing the head unit. Thanks for the input guys! legacyshawn
lol yeah same. You kinda need an amp if you want any sort of power from your new speakers.
coop3422
lol yeah same. You kinda need an amp if you want any sort of power from your new speakers. For sure. An amp will always help since factory units give off like 5 RMS. I was just curious when a fellow B owner said I'd be unhappy with doing a 4ch off the factory head unit. He said it still wouldn't sound good unless I did the JDM bezel and aftermarket unit. That didn't sound right to me though.
