APEX H7 Xenon HID Kit - Install / Build Log

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I bought some APEX H7 6K Xenon HID Kit for my '08 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition. They were a good deal on Amazon and seemed like decent quality. So we'll see how they work. 100% new to all this..

Probably going to install them friday before we head up hunting for the weekend! :)

Day 1 ~35min

Opened up the hood and just tried to get to the lights to make sure that both ballets and lights work. Everything checked out fine. Super easy to install and get to the connections.

Longest part was reconnecting the battery (probably wasn't necessary to disconnect it in the first place). It was also a little difficult to plug in the ballest to the stock connection, took a bit of force and wiggling. All and all easy to install.

Here is some pics of what the lights will look like side by side with stock.

Tomorrow I need to drill holes in back of cap and get grommets hoping to keep as much moisture out as possible. I was also given the suggestion from a local parts shop that I should use metal strapping to keep the ballasts in place (this stuff). Went to Walmart and they didn't have any so thinking about looking for some at Lowes tomorrow. If I can't find any or a good place to attach it then I will just use the sticky pads paired with some duck tape or electrical tape. Definitely want to use electrical tape on final wiring just for longevity.

Excited for final install tomorrow! :)

Yea for $29.99 I don't see them lasting very long. The Kensun kit had good reviews which is what I put on mine and so far no issues but I didn't really expect much out of them. Best of luck!

Did it come with a grommets? Or whatever their called?

These seem fine pre install, The only problems I see is the grommet part for when I drill holes and how to mount the boxes since they don't have spots for screws or what not..

I mounted mine to the bottom of the headlight with stronger double sided tape then what came with them. They are holding up fine so far

Zip tie it behind the headlight. Plenty of places to do so.

Ended up purchasing that kit. Installed too easy to even write up.

Mods please delete or close thread. It is now irrelevant.

Good choice. I like the lighting better than stock and the only issue I've had is the passenger side light doesn't turn on when I leave the switch on so I have to turn the lights on for them both to work but otherwise they are much brighter than stock imo

I've had that too, but it seems to have stopped. Made sure it didn't wiggle and used electrical tape to keep the connectors close

If you have a 35w kit you really shouldn't need a relay. Like stated above just make sure all connections are snug....snapped together doesn't always mean it's snug. Dielectric grease and electrical tape can solve more connection issues than you'd imagine.

I would think if there was a connection issue the light wouldn't work at all... but its only the passenger side and it only doesn't work when I leave the light switch on and start the car. When I turn the light switch on myself they both come on everytime no problem.

I have a Volt kit from Xenon Experts and most times when I turn on the car with the headlights already on one of them won't fire. It's as easy as just flipping the headlights on after starting the car and they both fire every time. Not a big deal and happens with most kits because of current draw at start-up
