poom
I have a 2012 3.6R, have just over 34k miles on stock brakes and they are done. I am in need of brakes, rotors, and stainless steel brake lines. would like a good setup without replacing calipers. I want more bite than stock. What setups do you guys have and do you like/dislike? FLlegacy
Do you need rotors or just feel like you should change them? I swapped my tribeca stock brakes to hawk hps and really have liked them a lot got about 40-50k miles on them with the stock rotors. You just need to clean them and then do the bed-in process. I believe there is a kit for the stainless lines GTeaser I think has installed them on his legacy. I bought my brakes off amazon.

I'm pretty hard on my brakes since i drive aggressively most of the time.

Perscitus
Ive gone with Stoptech slotted rotors, Goodridge SS lines, Hawk HP v5 pads, Stoptech DOT4 fluid and a Cusco master cylinder brace. I think the brake fluid, master cylinder brace and Hawk HP v5 pads made the biggest difference in brake feel , overall performance and initial bite over stock. ChrisCrash
Is it me or are the hawk pads (or Subaru pads) pretty much the same for a wide range of Subaru vehicles? I just ordered pads and they came in with an invoice for 2009 tribeca pads so I checked their site and there are a ton of Subarus of different years back to 2005 that use the same pads HB671B.628 and HB533B.
fedaykin
It's not uncommon for manufacturers to use the same brake pads across a range of vehicles. Have a look at Nissan .

GTEASER
I am a big fan of Carbotech pads. I have run XP8 and XP12 (aggressive track pads) on my Legacy GT, and currently running 1521 Bobcats on my Forester XT. poom, it's curious that "being hard on your brakes" for 34k miles requires new rotors. I'm still on the stock rotors on my GT at 50k miles and they have loads of life left in them. And, I ran stock pads from 0-34k miles, XP12 from 34k-46k with a track day in there, and the XP8 from 46k-50k with a track day in there also. The track days each involved hours of threshold braking from 100mph plus and my OEM rotors are still in excellent shape. JohnQx25
anyone have a link to proper instructions/youtube videos for doing pads and rotors on our 5th Gen? Somewhat novice, I've done pads and rotors before on other cars just not my Legacy. Thanks!!
Apexofthevortex
fastwrx.com has a complete stoptech package for our cars, Pads, rotors, fluid and SS lines all for 450$ I believe

Somewhat novice, I've done pads and rotors before on other cars just not my Legacy. Thanks!! I thought at one point I had seen some write-ups on here for doing that but I'm too lazy to search now. They are pretty straightforward if you've done brakes before. Have a few M8x1.25 bolts that are a few inches long. There are tapped holes on the rotors that the bolts thread into. They will make removal much, much easier. VF54 to 20G to VF54 to 18G build thread
cww516
Pro-tip: the bolts that hold the caliper brackets to the knuckles are M8x1.0, and don't like being screwed into rotors. Ask me how I know...

GTEASER
Anybody have experience with EBC pads & rotors? I'm between them and stoptech. My only experience is hearing others say that no matter which compound, they are going to make noise. I am running Carbotech XP8 now and they make little to no noise and they are almost as good as the XP12's, which did make some noise but not gut wrenching squeals. ChrisCrash
Anybody have experience with EBC pads & rotors? I'm between them and stoptech. Ive run greenstuff pads on my acura in the past and I really liked them. It did not have the power of this car though so I'm not sure which level would be best. Personally I'd go Red if you're going EBC but Ive heard the dust can be a lot. I chose to go hawks myself and stoptech centric rotors.
SURFNSLACKER
The green stuff are for cars under 200 bhp. I would either go red or yellow.

jackal8788
Does StopTech make decent hardware? What do you mean by hardware? I tend to think of nuts and bolts when I hear that term. Volleyball
I put EBC yellow on my truck. They work great. They have some wear in coating that sheds on the wheels but they seem clean once that is gone. I carry/pull heavy weight so I would know about fade and they don't seem to fade. wraedeohed
VolleyBall, I understand your perspective. I'm a mechanical engineer and think of nuts in bolts as hardware as well, but outside of work, hardware is a lot more broad. So my bad. I mean their breaking equipment in general, so they make decent hardware? The deal seems pretty good, so I might grab it.
GhiaAddict
fastwrx.com has a complete stoptech package for our cars, Pads, rotors, fluid and SS lines all for 450$ I believe And its not a complete Stoptech package. It is Centric brake rotors, Stoptech Pads, MACH V brake lines, and 5.1 Brake fluid. Great setup for price but the below recommendation has me hesistant. From KNS brakes website: We DO NOT recommend these pads for the average daily driven car, these are performance pads and are designed for hard use. Light use can lead to uneven pad deposits and brake judder. Has anyone used the Stoptech pads to either confirm or deny?
