How to Remove the front rotors of the 3.6R Legacy?

So its finally time to replace the front breaks on my 2011 Legacy 3.6R.

66K miles is pretty good I think!

So I have some new pads and I want to turn the rotors and do this brake job right, but I'm having a really hard time removing the rotor from the hub. Yes the caliper is of and yes the caliper carrier has also been removed. In most cases the rotor should now basically "pop" off or in a lot of cases, fall off the hub. But not on this car. It's stuck on there real good. Are the rotor and hub one in the same? What's the deal with these rotors? There is no set screw to hold the rotor onto the hub. Is it just corroded onto the hub? I've popped it with a rubber mallet with no loosening at all.

HELP!!!!!

BTW, its good to be back here. It's been a really long time since I've been to the page. Sorry.

Is it the stock rotor? Are there any extra holes on the rotor for threading in another bolt to force the rotor loose from the hub. Not sure on 5th gens but 4ths had them

Huh, I'll look to see if those holes have threads in them. Every other car I have ever done front brakes on the rotor almost falls off or needs just a gentle thump from the rubber hammer.

I'll look and report back.

spray the lugs down with PB blaster, let it soak for 30 minutes, and then whack the rotor with a hammer.

I tried the whacking with a rubber mallet. That's not it. The lugs have nothing to do with why the rotor is captured onto the hub. The rotors are pressed onto the hub, using the wheel and lugs to do the pressing.

Well Andy-Mac wins the prize! (OK, there is no prize, but if there was...)

The stock front rotors have two little holes opposite each other that are threaded. The idea I'm sure is that there is a puller of some sort that threads into those holes and then presses against the center hub and pops off the rotor.

What I did was use the proper, coarse threaded bolt and threaded in a bolt into each one and pressed it up against the hub flange and the rotor released from the hub. It was a pretty easy solution, but one I have never seen before. Most rotors aren't captured onto the hub that tightly.

Problem solved! Thanks for the hint Andy!

You will need 2 M8x1.25 bolts to do the same to the rears.

Good stuff!

Yea no puller or anything needed, just screw those bolts, the size GTEASER listed, and keep going until it eventually pushes the rotor loose. Making sure to do both bolts relatively evenly or you risk messing up the thread on the wheel studs
