Let's bump this nice thread :). So please educate me a bit here. If this is not paint, what is it? And why did you go that route instead of painting the car?

The front end of our car needs to be repainted (clear coat is peeling off baaaad). Does the shop you used charge a lot?

Its called "Liquid Wrap" which is basically a spray on vinyl. So its like peelable paint. Similar to Plasti-Dip but like a higher end level. There are two Gloss topcoats available that i know of (Halo EFX True Gloss or AutoFlex High Gloss). True Gloss typically last 2-3 years, Autoflex is set to last forever, but can be peeled when desired. Another cool thing, is that they can actually spray oem colors that dont have pearls. They can order the Paint without the binders, and mix it in, with the spray wrap to lay down the color coats.

I went this route, because it was waaaay cheaper than paint! To paint my car wouldve been around $5K, and the color wouldve been permanent. But with Autoflex, it was right under $2K and i got my car the color i wanted with a nice gloss! I can also still use regular car wash/polish/wax like maintaining regular paint as well! I will admit, with actual paint, you can get that real smooth mirror finish. With Liquid Wrap, you can definitely achieve high gloss, but you wont be able to get that nice mirror finish you see on actual paint.

So if i were you, id contact Rogue Enterprises and tell them Bo sent you! Make sure to have pics ready, and tell them your situation. My guess for a front bumper can range from $200-$400! Depending if any repairs are needed.

Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to explain and write all of that.

Didn't they sand your original paint though or do some kind of priming? Meaning, if you were to peel off your wrap, you will no longer expose the original paint no?

Also, how resistant is this wrap to chips, scratches and stuff?

As for our car, the front bumper, hood, front fenders and three doors have the clear cloat completely falling apart :(. So ugly.

I need to see your car in person. That would be helpful.

Actually thats another thing! I forgot to mention, to prep for wrap, there is no sanding required, wrap is designed to bond/form on top of clear coat. So any dents, or imperfections (Dents, dings, chips etc) that you do have will show through the wrap. Its been pretty good so far! I only drive the car on nice weekends, and i havent had any major issues as far as chips go. However its still pretty strong, and maybe even better than oem clear. I cant explain it, but its more flexible than oem clear coat.

Yea i mean im not sure how the liquid wrap would bond to a primered surface, or may it would bond too well, and not peel off? But i would definitely recommend talking to the dip installer, to see what your options are.

Thats fine too! Im located in Easton area, so PM if youre interested in coming by to look at it!

Is there a finish like the BMW "frost" paint? I like that hood scoop. Where can I get 1?

I havent looked into it, but im sure they can definitely do it!

The scoop was purchased from japanparts.com, but can also be found at avojdm.com as well

Thanks for the reply and wow, I've never noticed those differences. Now I'm definitely going to check my taillights tomorrow and also wondering if there's any big difference for the facelift. I love our front end but the facelifts rear... just seems like it has the extras that the pre-facelift needs!

Love your car btw. Saw the short film before coming across it here👍🏾

Thanks for the feedback. Too bad, we went to OC this weekend to surf a bit. We could have stopped on our way back to check out your car....

In any case, from what you're saying it would not be wise to simply liquid wrap my car knowing that the clear coat has peeled off in several locations. It sounds like these imperfections would definitely show even after the wrap. Dang it!

If wrap is anything like plasti-dip it's a much thinker coat and it actually hides imperfections. If your clear coat is peeling you probably would want to sand the edges to just make it a little bit less of a ledge. But my experience with Plasti-dip means it would actually cover pretty well.

Like Bo said, check with a dip installer, see what they say.

Not really. I did attend boxerfest twice when it was held on a Saturday. And one guy 'spotted' me at a Costco gas station a while ago and gave me a facebook card for subaru club in Maryland. But you know, my car is not fancy at all! So, nothing to show off really.

Love the build!

I'm looking to go with those same wheels, 18x8.75 et35. Looks like all you had to do was roll the fenders? Nothing extra to adjust the camber in the rear?

Nice!

Yup. Fenders rolled!

As for the camber, i had the wheels/suspension/alignment all done at once at the shop. So im not 100% sure if youll have to re-adjust the camber if youre just changing the wheel/tire setup, but if the vehicle does seem to ride rough or not straight after the new wheel/tire setup you may need an alignment. Hope this helps!
