ssbtech Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Well I finally got sick of wires dangling down from my rear-view mirror, so with the new camera came a new installation. I went with the BlackVue 550-2ch with the custom Russian firmware. This isn't a step-by-step, just a summary of the install. First step was to replace the sticky windshield mount that came with the camera with one that mounted the camera to the mirror. Since nothing was available, I designed one in Solidworks and had Shapeways print it for $12. No sticky mess on the glass and it pulls the camera back a little to keep it slightly less visible from outside. Second was to run the wires. I pulled the map lights, driver side visor, a-pillar and snaked the wires through down to the fuse area. I also pulled down the driver's side of the headliner and ran the rear-camera wire alongside the radio antenna. That was a pain, but it worked. Third was to finally put the "OP Connector" to good use. I have the harness sitting around so I modified it with a little pigtail to bring the connector closer to the front side of the fuse box. I cut/terminated the wiring for the BlackVue Power Magic Pro so that it was wired directly into the OP connector. No fuse taps used. Made everything nice and tidy, protected the wires where needed and everything works like a charm. Sorry, no pictures of the headliner down. Rear camera sits right next to the rear window wiper motor. Fairly stealthy.
Dispatch20 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Is the OP connector only on the '05-'06 4th Gen Legacies?
ssbtech Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 I think other Subaru models got it, but yes, only on the 05-06 Legacy/Outback.
