Help! Car Key/ +12 Volt Memory

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was wiring/splicing the remote wire for my subwoofer (Wasn't plugged in either end) and something strange happened.

1. The radio is completely dead and won't turn on even though I removed the spliced wire and tried again.

2. I had to disable the 30s timer for the immobiliser as it was stuck on.

3. The lock/unlock button on my car key is no longer working.

Hazards work..Lights work..everything works fine. The car even starts (Now that the immobiliser is turned off)

I have a theory that I've somehow sent a power surge from the audio system to the cars volt memory and wiped my car key from the system (I'll have to re-register it)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

P.s. I read it wrong and did it to the memory not the accessory!

What did you try to patch the remote wire for the sub into?

I patched it into the 12+ Volt Memory not the 12+ Volt Accessory.

It is okay. Got it all sorted out now. Turns out the backup fuse in the engines fuse box had blown. Replaced it and car is fine.

However. I now have a wired in Sub but I get the letter A next to my trip meter on the odemeter mow. Car runs fine etc. Other forums don't seem to have the answer. It appeared with something like 630,341 miles so I pressed the trip reset button but the A symbol is still there.

Wait, can you take a picture or something of this. From what it sound like , you may just be confused. The cluster has two trip options which can be used to record mileage. Is the cluster recording mileage or no?

@Whitrac

1. I made a simple mistake and was trying to do it quickly.

2. Professional quoted me £120 ($183) to put some wires in.

3. Where is the fun in getting some pro to do it ;D Gotta experiment some times bud.

@Battelready

Here is a picture. The A symbol has appeared and the number on top is the current trip and number below is total since the car was built. Top number is where the 6 digit number appeared. I thought A might of been Alternative and it was now in Kilometers not Miles but alas no. Any advice is appreciated.

1: open the glovebox

2: remove the manual that is probably in your glovebox

3: RTFM

FYI, the oem head unit has a subwoofer output. IDK if it works, but its there.

With all of the audio gear you want to install, you need to find a friend that has done this before or take it to someone and pay them to do it.

You will end up frying something if you keep going at this rate.

Smh, my guy. The A represents one of the two trip modes that record the milage as you drive. You can reset them by holding the protruding stick thing from the cluster.

@whitrzac

I have done this before on my previous car and had no issues. As I said before it was a simple mistake, I learn from my mistakes :)

You must of done some mods to your car at some point yourself??

Doing it yourself is so much more rewarding.

Cheers for the tip but my European head unit definitely doesn't...I did check and research loads before doing any wiring.

@battelready

Thanks for all of the help :-)

If you push the trip meter reset knob quickly it switches between A and B trip meters.

@Max Capacity

Yeah, One owner from new, private plates. Full service history. Only averaged about 3000 miles per year.

When I bought it, it was 10 years old with 39,000 on it for £3,500 ($5321.91)

Took it to my local garage and the mechanic was astonished at how nice the car was.

I will just say it's not the GT version, I posted on these forums as they have the best advice.

Only a 2.0 litre NA engine. 33mpg and 0-60mph in about 7-9s

Quoted 11s but it's just so much faster than that!

Still bloody nice for £3500 though!
