tvsubaru Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Long story short I have been trying to locate a oil leak from my passenger side cylinder head after doing head gaskets on my car. as it turns out the bung or nipple that the oil pressure sending unit goes into on the passenger side cylinder head must have cracked when it went back together. I changed the sensor and the whole ear snapped off. Basically i think I'm now screwed. Taking the head off is not an option. I know it could be tig welded but do I have any other options here?
tvsubaru Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 This is basically what happened to me but the whole thing broke off. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f88/oil-consumption-leak-help-please-100017/index2.html
starionesir Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 If the ear snapped off I'd recommend a new head. Not what you want to hear but it is the best fix. You could try and have it welded but trying to weld aluminum with oil present is difficult. Even cleaning it still makes it difficult. The aluminum holds onto the oil and will cause issues getting a good weld. I'd suck it up and replace the head. Costs more but will be a 100% fix.
