svxak47 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Ok so Im shopping around to start removing the factory parts which grenade over time (catted up pipe and VF40 turbo) and im starting with the up pipe. Which brand is recommended as Ive come across everything from dcsports for around $100 to Perrin and Grimspeed at $250 and others on up in price. Also which vendor is recommended for a turbo upgrade to either rebuild the VF40 for more reliabilty or another bolt in alternative. Thanks in advance
Phillip J. Fry Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 many may say cobb. some may say sti. some will say 07+ my. my engine did not like cobb. tried 2 of them. under load the engine moves and i think was pulling on my pipe which created a leak. stocker was fine and still is. point? if you upgrade id say get a flex joint upipe. you didnt state what year you have. the 05 and 06 had cat in uppipe and 07+ did not. you may be doing extra work for nothing. if you need a new turbo id say get the vf52. no matter what you should have a custome tune anyways. might as well upgrade as you replace things.
KRM Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I like the grimmspeed up pipe. No fitment issues, nice thermal coating. And contact member jmp for a turbo rebuild. He does good work

Mike07LGT Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I have a 2005 GT with about 72k miles on it. I also got a full warranty with it Find an sti uppipe to replace the stock one. Around $75 will take care of the uppipe. Jmp can rebuild your vf40 and make it amazing if thats the route you want to go. Depends how much power you are looking to put down and how reliable you want your car. Do some research and come up with a goal and then look for replacements. BnR makes 16g, 18g and 20g that alot of members have swapped to and have been happy. 03 WRB WRX (RIP) 04 JBP STI (sold) 07 DGM Legacy GT (RIP) 12 OBP STI (DD)
