subaru2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Test drove both the 2015 Legacy 2.5i Limited and the 3.6r today, hands down the 3.6r felt better and just more powerful and fun when accelerating. Love the sound and feel of the CVT 6-cylinder. Coming from driving a 4-cylinder for 15 years, think it's time for me to upgrade to a 6-cylinder and have fun with it. I don't care too much for MPG since I don't drive a whole lot but even if I did, the 3.6r is just more fun. The 4-cylinder didn't really "wow" me, of course it being a different engine. Exterior/Interior was pretty much the same so that was nice. Really comes down to the extra $3k I'd be spending up front and the cost of gas over the years, but it takes Regular fuel so that's a win...think I'm sold on the 3.6r. (Planning to get moonroof + keyless entry + eyesight package). I also like that the 3.6r comes standard with HID headlamps whereas the 2.5i does not. I am a huge fan of those lights at night...where our cars really stand out from the rest. Now I just need to figure out when to buy it, and if I should buy new or used...? I really want the Ice Silver Metallic color (the car I test drove today) so if I want that specific color, if I go for used chances are I may not get it, but if I go new and get exactly what I want, when is a good time to buy the new car? Should I wait a few months/until Fall or do I run the risk of 2015s going away and making room for 2016s? I also heard that negotiating with all the dealers in/out of state over email for the best pricing is the way to go...thoughts? Thank you in advance for your help! I'd like to buy one in the next few weeks if possible so I can enjoy it in the summer

I'd like to buy one in the next few weeks if possible so I can enjoy it in the summer You can try to find and buy a used example, but if you can afford it I would just a new one. Subaru's hold their value very well. A one year old model might only save $2000. It isn't like a German luxury car where a one year old model could save $10k on $45k car. The last few years, the new model year change over for Legacy/Outback line has been early July. With the way the new models have been selling I would expect to see very few 2015 around much past July with a limited selection (and risk them not having the model/color you want) If you really want a 2015 I would target buying a car in the next month or so. As for negotiating a price, do your research on the car that you want. (Figure out invoice price, figure out what others paying in the 6th gen section of this forum) I would email local dealers for quotes for same optioned cars, use quotes against other dealers to get your best price. Try truecar and any other free car buying service (aaa or wholesale clubs) and you can try negotiating in person. Because Subarus are selling so well you are unlikely to get great deals on the last day of month that some car buying experts mention. I wouldn't expect many leftovers either. If your willing to risk waiting for a leftover '15 3.6R and be fine buying a 2016 3.6R, you may have to wait month or so for the model you want. I have noticed when Subaru manufactures its car for the new model year they load up on the popular models first. (2.5i's especially the Premium)name slowly roll out the lesser selling models.

Thank you very much for this information, it really helps paint a picture on when I should act on buying the car...I know I want it and doesn't sound like waiting until end of summer/Fall for a brand 2015 is the right thing to do. So I will begin emailing local dealers, ask for what price they can give me on the car I want and compare it with other dealers, Costco, TrueCar, etc...and make the deal with the best price...so exciting to know I might have a new car in the next month or so! I am going to buy a new one because like you said, a year older doesn't knock off the price much, plus it'd be used, might as well spend a few $ extra and get brand new...plus they hold their value quite a bit, so depreciation isn't too much of a worry. I think I read somewhere that after 5 years the Subaru only depreciates a total of $12-$13k which isn't bad... Where is the 6th gen forum on here? I can't seem to find it...would love to see what others paid for their 2015 3.6r as well. Thank you again!
