emosound Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Hey all, A few months ago I changed the clutch in my 05 LGT turbo wagon. Went pretty well, but now I have a rattle noise from under the car. At 40mph, it's a whine, and the slower I go it turns into a regular click click click, proportional with vehicle speed. If I push in the clutch, it gets quieter, but does not go away. I suspect the center diff or transfer case bearings, but just to ask a question here: When I took off the driveshaft, I didn't mark it. There are marks from the factory on the shaft and on the diff flange. Should they be aligned or 180 degrees apart? Right now they are aligned, when I put the shaft back in, I just lined up the old dirt and grease marks on the diff flange, but I'm not sure it went back in the orientation as it came out. Does this matter? The shop manual says to mark it, but doesn't mention the factory paint marks. Thanks,
Silinc3r Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 yes the paint marks should match. Also the flywheel and pressure plate or supposed to be matched. Silinc3r's 05 SWP GT/Spec B

Actually the manual says to make sure the paint marks on the FW and PP are at least 120 degrees apart. I did that exactly as the manual says, but it doesn't mention the factory marks on the prop shaft and diff.
compsurge Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Center diff transfer drive and driven gear bearings sound suspect. How is the on-throttle and off-throttle whine? Does it immediately go away when you lift off the throttle?

Does it immediately go away when you lift off the throttle? The noises are actually more noticeable when not on the throttle. they get quieter but don't go away when the clutch is pushed. They are loud enough to hear either with windows up at 20mph or so, or with windows down in a neighborhood with curbs, so the sound bounces back at me.
