key code saga

For the last 4 months

l've been trying to get a spare ignition key for my BP5 Wagon . Finally, through Subaru UK , I now have a key which will start the car and manually open the doors. Controlling the central locking is the problem. The manual method of coding the key to do this requires an 8 digit reference number from inside the key. Typically, my key does not have the sticker showing the number inside the case. It does have various numbers and letters on the circuit board but none are just 8 digits long. Can anyone help me by indicating which of the numbers I can see are the ones I need?

I had to get a new (used from Ebay) key-fob for my car. The number the instructions talked about on mine was inside the fob on a white sticker - pretty hard to miss. I'm pretty sure you need this, if yours doesn't have that then I would take it back to Subaru. I just opened up my fob and there are no numbers on the circuit board that match the numbers on the sticker.

No luck with Subaru so more internet browsing and more ideas. The most likely involved 10 key turns, door open and closed then there should be a horn honk. No such luck but instead the characters "Al - on" displayed on the dash. That looked promising but pressing either lock or unlock achieved nothing. Second attempt, removing the driver's kickplate then joining two loose plastic connectors which "should" allow programming. Again, zilch! An autolocksmith looked in vain for a keypad which is absent. Any suggestions?
