kcmusa Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I need to change my turbo, what else should I check or replace while I am doing this?
Max Capacity Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Why do you need to replace the turbo ? If it blew and put metal into the oil system then see above ^. Along with oil pump and oil cooler. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MTBwrench Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Unless you're replacing the turbo because of a bad waste gate flapper, or as an upgrade, chances are there's going to be a lot more to it than just 'replacing your turbo'... if you do it properly. But for the sake of your question: -Replace the turbo coolant feed/return hoses and clamps.(Just flush your coolant while you're at it...) -Get a new rubber oil drain tube and clamps. - As Tris said, get rid of those banjo filters ASAP. -New down pipe/up pipe gaskets -Get new stainless hardware if you have a hard time getting the existing nuts/bolts off -Catless up pipe? I think your 2007 is good, someone more knowledgable will chime in. Thats what I did when I replaced mine, because of a bad waste gate. If the turbo blew up on you, scrap that list and start planning out your rebuild. 'cuz #YNANSB! kcmusa Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Play in the turbo, had p0011. banjo bold was clogged. Checked play on turbo, abouy 1/8 inch play, changing before it goes. Dont believe a need a new block, she still runs great. Have a cobb exaust and accessport now.
Max Capacity Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 FWIW, I bolt the turbo to the up pipe, leave it loose until you have the tmic started and the two bolts at the tmic to turbo started, then start the bracket bolts then tighten the TB clamp, then two bolts at the tmic to turbo then the rest. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
