Soarer Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hey gents, Did a bunch of searching and didn't come up with anything. I'm looking for a wire to tap to supply power to the backlights of some gauges I'm installing. I want them to dim with the dash lights when the headlights come on and when I adjust the dimmer switch. I put a test light to the wires coming out of the dimmer switch and came up with some strange results. There was only one wire that whose output would change as the dimmer was rolled up or down. What surprised me was to see that when I dim the switch and the dash lights, the current from this wire increases and brightened the bulb in my test light. It's doing the exact opposite of what I want it to do! Anyone got any suggestions on how to get aftermarket gauges to dim properly with the rest of the dash lights? On a 2005 LGT 5sp Ltd Wagon.
rhino6303 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I don't think you'll be able to adjust the brightness with the rheostat type switch. If you just want bright/dim, use a fuse tap and connect them to the clearance lights fuse (I think). There is a thread somewhere in the interior forum where this same information is posted.
