CNT catted downpipe 5eat fitment

Recommended Posts

So I had the CNT downpipe put on today and I noticed it hangs down much farther then anything else under the car. The shop had to modify the bracket that bolts it to the transmission because the pipe was so low it would not reach. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the CNT DP on my 5EAT. It is catted though. Perfect fitment on mine.

VF-52 and all associated bits tuned by Tuning Alliance.

Oh yes should add mine is Catted also. Could you take a pic of under the car from the front end? Curious if yours hangs as low as mine does.

Can anyone with a 5EAT and a CNT catted down pipe get me a picture of under their car from the front end? I want to compare how much mine is hanging to others that have it. Had the shop swap the turbo and up pipe at the same time so im wondering if something is sagging somewhere it shouldn't be.

Mine had to be played with to get correct fitment on my 5mt catless downpipe, but it fit with no extra bracket needed. You get what you pay for! Next time I will go for invidia or cobb

I should have got something better quality. The reviews for the CNT were pretty good though. Cant beat that price too!

I have attached a couple pics of under my car to show how far it hangs down. With it that low I cannot even think of lowering the car.

When we installed Vengeance68's, it was also low. I sent him a link to this thread, I'll let him chime in with pictures and more long-term experience with it.

Thank you Tris. Yes mine hangs lower and I'll take a pic later today. I have yet to hit anything with it for over 1300 miles now.

Fyi Tris and I installed a catless Invidia DP with divorced WG.

The fitment to the exhaust and turbo was flawless with exception that I could not get the old donut chiseled off so I ended up with kind of a haugzaust.

The DP hooked up to the bracket just fine. For some reason though some of these aftermarket pipes are bent differently. To correct the low hanging section would require a different bend in that elbow, cutting off a small section due to length being longer and relocating the flange to the exhaust.

Thanks for that info. I have thought about bringing the car to an exhaust shop to see if they can cut off a section of the DP and re weld it so that its not hanging so low. I can see myself destroying the pipe quickly, keep in mind the car is still at stock ride height in those pictures.

Its not the fitment that really bothers me. Its that I paid a shop to install it and that's what I got back. Nothing about them trying to make it fit better. Not to mention they only used about 25% of the new hardware and didn't reinstall any of the brackets so I cannot bolt my head shield back up. They didn't tell me it had fitment problems or anything. I personally would not send a car out of my shop with a part fitting that poorly without having the owners consent.

Thank you for that. Mine sits much lower. I would be happy if mine trnes out like yours! I'll have to look into why mines hanging so low.

I'm lowered on s tech springs and 5eat and mine is hanging way lower than yours. 700 ding free miles, but then again I've been limping mine around.

I'll snap a pic if u want...I am planning on making some adjustments though because the downpipe seems to push the cbe so far forward that the last hangers arent even being used.

Yes please do. Im wondering if there is something wrong with the install or the pipe itself.

So I'm assuming this is related to 5eat downpipes? I have the same issue with my Invidia. It's so low It will scrape on some speed bumps if I don't go tremendously slow. I am lowered 1" in the front on 215/45/17's but I was lowered a good amount more on my wrx & sti with the same model Invidia dp and never had this issue. It's a good thing I didn't go with coilovers, not sure I can go any lower.

CNT is a (poor) copy of Invidia. So, if the Invidia runs low, the CNT will too.

And the invidia isn't that nice to start with.:spin:

Mine hung way to low and the rear flange was at an odd angle making it difficult to mate with the midpipe.

So are you guys suggesting another brand such as Grimmspeed wouldn't have that issue or are you just assuming? I haven't had any fitment, quality or performance issues with any of Invidia's products in the passed. I'm not even sure this is considered an issue unless someone can assure me other brands don't hang low like that on the 5eat 4th gen's?

You have limited options on the 5EAT. GS does not make a pipe for the 5EAT. Cobb is the best one still available (that I recall off the top of my head).

Damn, I haven't even checked but that sucks. I bought almost every other product they offer for the lgt I figured why not their dp as well. And when you say Cobb is the best one available you mean as in it doesn't hang low? That's my only issue with the Invidia. Just want to know for sure if any other brand does not hang that low.

Sorry to be a pain just need someone to tell me for SURE that Cobb or another brand does not have the issue which no one has assured me of yet. Nobody in here with a 5eat and aftermarket dp other than Cnt & Invidia? Reason it makes no sense to me is the one I had on my sti didn't hang down like that. Almost just like a 90 degree angle. It does appear to have a slight bend in the same spot but not near as bad. Why would they not do it like that for the lgt 5eat if they could?

I mean overall quality of the Cobb is better than the other options. I dont recall any of them fitting that low, but every now and then a member seems to have this issue. I can check the DP on my wifes 5EAT this evening, but I know its not that low and its an old CNT (original batch). I have a Cobb hanging on the wall in the showroom (5EAT model).
