considering buying a 95 legacy L

So there's a white 95 Legacy L that's been parked in my neighborhood for about a year. I finally decided to check it out and while it runs, it is pretty rough.

The most apparent thing I noticed was a gnarly wobble on the crank pulley. Here's a video to show how bad it is:

From a little bit of reading this could either be a somewhat simple fix of replacing the crank pulley, but might involve fixing the key on the crank if damaged.

I also noticed what looked like an oil leak where the intake manifold bolts onto the block, and the exhaust and oil pan were both soaked from other leaks...

Overall it's a pretty rough car, but I can get it for very cheap if I want...(under $1k)

Is it worth it to put the time/money into this car? it has 176k and has been sitting for a year, it's a 2.2 auto, pretty clean exterior.

also, the owner said it is painfully slow up hills on the freeway. is the 2.2 really that much of a dog?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no the ej22 is a great engine and the 95 is a great car.

but imho, $1000 is high.

but it depends on where you are , maybe.

the timing is probably a little off due to the crank pulley wobble.

as you mentioned, it is a pretty easy fix.

replace the pulley, the sprocket behind it,

the key and maybe the bolt,

any thing that shows improper wear, except the crank shaft.

the damage to the keyway in the crank is in the ''unbolt'' direction.

when you put it back together and torque it to 135 ft lb,

it will line up properly and be good to go.

the 95 ej22 is a non-interference engine,

so no worries.

if you will do a search here on this forum,

you will learn that these engine leak after a while.

but all leaks can be corrected with new oil seals and valve cover gaskets.

search for oil leaks, or 'common oil leaks'.

(ej25 and ej22 leaks are the same.)

only one oil leak cannot be repaired with the engine in the car.

most can be addressed when replacing the timing belt.

cam, crank seals

oil pump o-ring and re-seal
