GaryM Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hello Everyone, Just bought a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon yesterday. this is my first Subaru. It has 109,270 miles and runs great. Automatic transmission. I have one pesky problem. when I got the car, the rear hatch opened and closed easily. I locked the car last night. Today, I cannot get the rear hatch to open. I have used the key, but it won't work. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance, and I look forward to exploring the forum

Unlock switch should do it. if switch and key don't work there is alittle access door right behind the lock. crawl in the back and it should be easy to find. once opened there is a metal rod that moves back and fourth to lock/unlock. Move the rod by hand see if works.
ClickJacker Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 This happens to mine all the time. insert key into rear hatch then push the handle forwards (towards front of car) then unlock and open.

MaddMerlin Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I used to have this problem, the handle gets rusty. Greased and oiled the crap out of it and all has been good since (about a year).
