A bolt in cage is all show and no go. they really dont help improve the safety in a roll, and can actually make the situation more unsafe.

for example, on this mustang, you can see where the cage punctured through the floor at the point it was bolted to.

if you are thinking about getting a roll cage for practical use, the only way to go is a custom one. if you want it just for show, the cusco one will do

You don't need a harness if you don't have a real roll cage.

Well, yeah, but, if he doesn't have harnesses instead of seatbelts, how are people to believe him when he says his stock car is fast?

I'm not usually one to start any drama on this or any other forum, but please learn to use proper spelling and grammar if you want to be taken seriously.

Why do you need a harness? Are you racing the car? If not, read this.

 a roll cage for autox?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Heavily modified Street Mod and Prepared cars don't use roll cages. what makes you think you need one? Just buy a CGlock.

Yadda, yadda. Harness bar is not right answer for autox. A bolt-in cage, if mounted correctly will save you life (check any Porsche, nearly all use a bolt-in, mounted to gusseted mounting points).

However, a cage will punt you into a class for which you have no hope of being competitive.

That said if you feel a cage is required for your "stock" car to autox, you are miss understanding the low speed nature of autox. For lapping, a well-built, correctly installed cage, with correctly mounted/fitted harnesses will save your life, even in a rollover. However, this is a very costly endeavour ($3500-$20 000 or more for a good cage, $1000-2500 for a seat, $300-600 for belts, $1000 or more for fire system (when attached to cage and expecting rollover, you have to account for being on fire too), $500 or more for remote electrical disconnect (electric fuel pump), $500-2500 for 10-30 seconds of fire protection suit, $500-2500 for rest of accessories, etc, etc). I bought a car with a cage & fire system already installed and still spent $2500 on upgrades to it plus another $2500 on my own safety gear so I could be assured of getting out of the burning car.

Check out http://www.schrothracing.com/. They make 4 point harnesses that attach to the stock mounting brackets. Safe & legal for autox, yet still allow you to slide out in case of a rollover. They will not help you in case of a spin into a hard object (ask me how I know).

For spins & other neck restraint requirements, check out Simpson products such as these:

http://simpsonraceproducts.com/hybrid/hybrid-sport/

http://simpsonraceproducts.com/hybrid/hybrid-pro-lite/

http://simpsonraceproducts.com/hybrid/hybrid-pro-nascar-approved/

All of which use your body instead of shoulder harness to restrain your head from excessive movement in a spin or hard hit.

None of these use a harness bar, and neither should you unless ricer.

If you want to know more about autox, look in this section - http://legacygt.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/motorsports-38.html and read from posts by the most experienced and accomplished autox-ers here (national level autox-ers)

Ill just lay this out here again if it was not clear. Nobody who is competitive in street car runs a roll cage for autox, and im talking about national champions. too much weight. you need to get weight out of the car, not put more in it.

There's nothing wrong with bolt in cages if done correctly. I have an Autopower bolt in my Acura Integra race car. The key is to make sure the base plates are large enough and bolted to the frame, not just the thin floor.

IMHO the best option for a street car that's autocrossing is the CG Lock. I used one when autox my Speed6, then got rid of it when moving to a Corvette in Stock class because Corvettes have a built in lock, you pull the belt all the way out, the lock engages and let it retract, then pull it down as tight as you can stand.

Nothing like a race track to find the weak points in man and machine.

Holy carp. (yes, fish)...

OP, check the rulebooks and classing before you do any mods please.

He thinks he needs a cage and harnesses in his LGT for "autox". I don't think he's even aware of the existence of a rulebook, let alone registration or actual competition.

Let him do whatever.

Putting a cage in a autocross car doesn't penalize you by moving up to a higher class as long as you keep the class necessary interior parts in the car. The amount of material removed has to weigh less than or be equal to the weight of the cage pieces.

But for the most part, you wouldn't want a cage unless you did a lot of track days or hill climbs, and in that case I wouldn't drive the car on the street.

As was said, I would look into one of the Schroth Harnesses. I run a Schroth Quick Fit in my M3, and it is well worth the cost.

Last time I checked autox didn't need a roll cage and harness for driving around cones.

You would be surprised how much quicker people are with a harness.
