After owning a 07 Spec B I miss it. I found this and iam bout to check it out tommorow. I called the dealer and they have no info on service records. Iam going to see if they will let me contact the previous owner to see if they can fill me in on past service and maintance records. They vehicle appears to me all stock but until the ECU is checked I will not know. The mileage is a bit high for me but if the vehicle has been taken care of it won't bother. Asking price 13k.

Any advice what I should look over on the vehicle would be helpful.

THANKS

if no service records, you have to assume the 105k service was not done.

The dealer should be able to check for service records in the entire Subaru system not just at their place. If nothing else, run the car fax and get a 3rd party inspection done. If the dealer won't allow that, then get a 12 month end-to-end warranty that will replace turbo, tranny, and engine.

Compression check, leakdown, check the turbo play, check the coolant has no dark spots (HG failure), check for abnormal wear on tires, check under car for change pieces or wear, check brake pads for uneven wear.

There's a list around of what to look for, however, not stickied. Will try to find and get it on list. :-)

This. All of this.

I purchased my Spec.B at around 111k miles and the turbo blew on the drive home. Set me back another $10k.

You really want to check out the condition of the engine and the hoses, gaskets etc as best you can, a compression check is a small investment that will tell you all you need to know about that car.

Dont spend new car money, it's an aging turbo EJ if the miles dont get it time will. 1 or 100K miles the engine is still the cars' weakness, like it or not and when that fails you wlil be paying a few thousand to get her back running.

However you can greatly extend the time before it craps out with regular maintenance so don't fear higher mileage options with good service records;)
