ssmall1991 Posted April 10, 2015 Author Share Posted April 10, 2015 I thought so when I installed it then I read on some other sites & in the haynes manual to put it in with the little ball valve facing the front of the engine. I couldnt see how it mattered either but I hadnt added coolant yet so I took it back out & made sure it was facing how the haynes manual said just for peace of mind really. From the service manual: NOTE: When reinstalling the thermostat, use a new gasket.The thermostat must be installed with the jiggle pin facing upward. The manual section quoted says the pin must be upwards, nothing about clock position. When the large part of the jiggle pin is in the uppermost part, the spring is in the block. It allows a small flow of coolant when the t stat is fully closed. I am sure that I have not done as many T stat changes as you, but I have NEVER had an issue, regardless of orientation. O. Well I copied and pasted RIGHT FROM THE MANUAL......jiggle pin always goes on top regardless of your "experience". You are wrong, just suck it up and admit it. johnegg Posted April 10, 2015 Share Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) apples and oranges. you two are debating entirely different things. 1/ whether the long side of the jiggle pin goes up or down. 2/ whether the jiggle pin should be on the front, toward the radiator, or rear, toward the block / trans, of the housing the t-stat sits in. as stated in an earlier post, if you use a suabaru t-stat, the housing on the bottom, the bottom radiator pipe connection, is not large enough for the t-stat to go in upside down. after market t-stats are smaller and they could be installed the wrong way. but since it is a NO NO to use an aftermarket t-stat, we are not too worried about that, are we. So I am going to say it does not matter what the rotation orientation is. Forgot to also list this third bullet from manual: In this time, set the jiggle pin of thermostat for front side. Which is awkward wording for sure, but the jiggle pin is to be installed facing front of engine. Does it matter?
