aormsby Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 So a couple of small problems have developed recently for me and was wondering if you guys know what's up. 1) I'm getting a clunking sound in the suspension from the front passenger side. It is typically an isolated noise and usually when going over small bumps. The same sound happens (repeatedly though) when I make sharper left-hand turns. 2) This problem happens almost exclusively on the highway. With steering wheel on center and applying even a slight amount of gas everything is fine, but as soon as my foot comes off the accelerator the car pulls to the left. When i re-apply gas it straightens back out again. It doesn't pull severely, but it pulls enough for me to want to fix it. If anyone has an insight onto what the problem would be, or how to fix it, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
twisty Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 the first one sounds like a cv going bad. mine did the same for years before it got bad enough for me to replace it. the 2nd one sounds like alignment issue, have you had it aligned? when you take off, the axles are equidistant from the trans so there is no torque steer, it will pull on both at the same rate usually. the only other cause for one side to drag more than the other is friction, like a bad hub, dragging brake, etc. but id definitely check alignment and measure the front to see how close it is. also take a good look at the bushings under there to see what kind of shape they are in.
aormsby Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 For the CV should I replace both left and right at the same time or would I be fine just doing the problem one? I've had the car for just about a month now, and it hasn't been aligned under my ownership yet (no clue when the last time previous owner had gotten it aligned so it has been on my agenda to get done anyway). I'll get that taken care of soon as well as take a look at bushings and such. Hopefully that'll fix it. Thanks!
