Getting a 2005 LGT

So, I've been in the process of buying a 2005 LGT for a couple days now. It's coming from a dealership that's about 4 hours away and they're going to be driving it here on monday it looks like.

They bought the car with a ruined motor caused by a failure with the turbo. I'm told that the person they bought it from blew an oil line to the turbo and the turbo messed up and sent shards of metal into the engine.

What would cause it to blow an oil line, is there possibly another underlying cause? Will no oil to the turbo cause the turbine to shatter like they say or would it just seize?

In the end, they completely replaced the engine and turbo and are selling it with a 3yr/50,000 mile warranty. So I'm not too terribly worried, just would like some opinions from much more experienced owners :D

This needs to be moved to the Prepurchase Questions section.

However, I'd find out what they replaced it with. It's often times as much as 2x the cost of a new OEM block to buy a used one. Because they're driving it 4 hours to you, I'd hope they've put in an OK used one, as, I wouldn't want them driving a new block on break-in 4 hours on the highway.

Have you personally had this car inspected by someone other than the selling party to assure you that this is a good purchase to make?

You've got alot of reading to do before you decide that you want to take on a car like the LGT -

Get a prepurchase inspection done by a mechanic who specializes in turbo Subarus -- not just anyone can properly assess the condition of these cars. Do this BEFORE you sign on the dotted line, K?

I'm expecting it to have been replaced with a lightly used motor, or they have already gone through the break in period, hopefully >.>

They're bringing it down here and all the paperwork is being done when it shows up. So, it's not getting paid for then sent down.

Being in MT, there's not a lot of shops and stuff around. Would bringing it to a Subaru shop be sufficient for an inspection?

I've owned multiple domestic performance cars and am fairly familiar with forced induction and have spent many hours reading up on Subaru in general and LGT in specific.
