solo413
Hello all, I just bought my oldest son an outback for Christmas and we had to change the alternator today and the air filter. Alternator was even faster to do in this car than my LGT for some reason. But the for the air filter we took out the air box and decided to spice it up a little bit and put on a cone filter like for a cold air intake. Fit perfect an car runs and drives just like normal. However there is a vacuum sound now coming from the engine that I didn't have before? Any help would be great on this topic! Also I apologize if there is a similar topic for this engine but I didn't have any luck finding one. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/01/10/6dab62b66510ffe6c67c1533a324fe46.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/01/10/f683a5ca960ef563b9a683203f0b9185.jpg
johnegg
it could be a bad fit at any of the plenum joints. if the original air box was not fully seated it would make a sound like that. part of the design of the plenum, is to make it quiet , as well as measure and deliver the air to the engine. you have removed some of it. i do not know if that is the problem, but is makes sense. some one else with CAI experience will have to comment. what year outback??? Zerohour
Could the noise just be the cone filter? Open filter allows for more engine noise goodness to be heard. You could also capture a video and share via YouTube.
