canadalgt Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 First of all, great website, awesome forums !!! It's a pleasure to be a part of a community where people actually know how to spell and complete proper sentences using correct grammar. Sorry, I needed to vent a little, I came from a Honda and let's just say the demographics of a Honda board tend to be a little on the immature side quite often. Anyway, now on to my purchase!!! On Monday, my wife and I decided to go into the friendly neighbourhood Subaru dealer to see the Legacy. I've been there before, drooling over the STi, so the sales reps knew me as a familiar face. In fact I had spoken to the sales manager twice before as to how badly I wanted the STi but for insurance and personal reasons (to flasy for my taste) I could never get myself to buy one. So this time around he comes over and just hands me a set of keys and says to me "try the Silver one out there and if this one doesn't cut it, I'll never be able to bring you over to the Subaru world". I said to him "OK, that sounds interesting". My poor wife was standing next to me thinking, this might be it, the fool is going to sign the deal!!! While, I went on the test drive, the sales manager requested to keep the keys to my Accord V6. I said sure... Now I am out on the test drive which should have lasted only 15 minutes. 45 minutes later I came back and I never felt so satisfied driving a car. Just to mention I had anIntegra type-R before the Accord and before the Type-r, I had a Civic with a GSR engine with a turbo kit which ran low 13 sec quarters all day in street trim. Best of all, my wife, who is desparately saving money to buy our first home, comes in and asks the sales rep if he could appraise our trade-in!!!! I thought, I'm in heaven because everything is working out too well. The final step was that the sales manager replied to my wife by saying "I've already appraised the Accord and it's worth $$$". Without getting into too much financial details the trade value he gave was awesome, to top it off, he knocked off $2000.00 Cdn of the list!!!! He said he did all this for me because he knew how badly I wanted a Subaru and it would be a pleasure to have me in the owners community. So, as the title says, I took the plunge........................... For those of you contemplating the purchase of this car; all I have to say is just go drive one. Be sure to know how to spool a turbo properly in order to get max power and ultimately enjoy the drive. A little hint for current non-turbo owners, keep in mind, mashing the pedal to the ground is not how you build boost properly. Gradually get into the boost by quick and linear actions rather than sudden ones. Also, drive the car for a while and do so with different scenarios; try it with the A/C on, with the windows down, with the stereo on and then off etc. You'll see that the Legacy is a car that is fun under all circumstances. Try on ramps and off ramps and even simple right turns, but do so with a spirited attitude, you'll see AWD simply put is awesome. Thank you Subaru. BTW: I chose the white GT with cloth.
SUBE555 Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 Good choice and welcome to the forum. This is truly a car that sells itself. The hardest part is getting people into the dealerships. Once most drive it, it's all said and done with. I bought mine site unseen, untested. Only thing I'd sat in was a Outback in Chicago at the motorshow. I knew the specs and knew it was what I wanted. Once again, congrads. Have fun with your new car. I know I do when I get the chance.
tml Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 Hey canada congrats bro!!! I am Canadian too and i have a 2003 accord v6 coupe that i want to trade in also. How much did they give you for your trade in, and how much was the final price? My AV6 has the full factory kit and a spoiler and around 30000km. I also have a dvd player with monitors in the headrest. I realy want the new legacy, turbo is a thing of beauty...... and so is manual transmission. Thanks in advance for any help bro!!
axis008 Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 You have exactly the car I want! Congrats on your purchase and we hope you and your wife are truly happy with it! -ben
mccorry Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Congratulations! Post some pics when you get a chance.... :)
scubie02 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Congratulations on taking the plunge--all I can say is that as the days and weeks go by you will be even happier that you did. I had some reservations about trading in my wrx and possibly losing performance or losing soem handling, but I am happier all the time to have made the switch. I'm sure you'll feel the same way.
babyvoxfan Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Did you come from VTEC.net? It's probably the worst car forum on the net!

SUBE555 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Don't lie! You've looked at another RX8. It may have been in your mirrors, or parked, or just looked to laugh at their great gas mileage which you don't have to put up with anymore. ;) I didn't test drive either of course. I think I T-ed off the local sales people with my new GT from elsewhere. I'll have to see what people say about it when I go pick it back up from some service later today. It truly is one heck of a car! I can't wait to AutoX it. :D Haven't raced anything since February, so I'm REALLY itchy!
B4_Maniac Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Ya got me Sube..I do snicker when I see one at the pump.. :) I think to myself thats probably the second time its filled up this week... Did you get your clips fixed on your Leggy yet Sube?
SUBE555 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I get her back today. I'm having them do a full check under there to make sure that's all it was. Plus they can assess the front left brake rotor which for some odd reason has a deep score in it. Odd, the front right pad didn't bed in in the same area that the scoring is on the left rotor. Just no damage. Hmm. We'll see what they say this afternoon when I pick it up after I get some sleep. (Working nights is a royal PITA.)
