kurtis9813
My friend drives a 1995 legacy wagon that she bought from me over a year ago. The car has a brake light that comes on randomly on the dash. The brakes work fine, there are no fluid leaks and the resovoir is full. She says that if she removes the cap on the resevoir and puts it back on the light will turn off but comes back later. Does anybody know how to read brake codes using test connectors under the dash or something like that? Or any ideas on wheree to start looking to get the light to go away? Thanks
johnegg
the resovoir is full. She says that if she removes the cap on the resevoir and puts it back on the light will turn off but comes back later."she says the reservoir id full....." i doubt she knows what full looks like. (my apologies if she does.) add 1 ounce of brake fluid to the reservoir and the problem will be fixed. you probably know this, but as the brake pads wear down, the pistons are more extended. this means there is more fluid in the system AFTER the master cylinder. and the master cylinder has a low fluid sensor. she should also check her brake pads, they may need to be replaced, or close to it. if she adds too much fluid before replacement, it may over flow when new pads are installed. it is not unusual for the brake light to come on in the winter when the fluid is ''kind of low'' but not all the way low. in the cold the fluid contracts. as the car warms up during a drive it expands. i have had a ''brake'' warning light in the really cold, below 10*, mornings only to have it go away by lunch. and please disregard if you have checked the fluid level. good luck. kurtis9813
The fluid is not low(I checked just in case) and the pads were replaced a little over a year ago when I sold her the car(about 15,000 miles ago) and I doubt she went through them already because she drives like a grandma. monkeyposeur
Is it the same light that comes on when the e-brake is engaged? Or the ABS light? My e-brake light on my SS will sometimes stay on when it is cold out even though the brake lever has been released.
kurtis9813
brake light not abs light and it been on since the summer even in warm weather. I'm personally thinking it might be that the sensor in the reservoir went faulty and is sending a bad reading
