randomeyes
Wondering if I should buy a 2005 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited that needs an engine and turbo. The owner started taking them apart; the engine compartment was full of leaves and the parts he removed were in a pile beside the car. I think it is safe to say he was not meticulous about disassembly or storing or labelling parts. He is asking $500. Edmunds suggests it would be worth around $6,000 with a working engine and such. xtea
How many miles? Has the suspension ever been refreshed? How's the interior and exterior? Putting a new turbo and engine in will at least cost you 6k. Having said that I personally would look forward to the adventure/calamity/disaster that is an engine rebuild/install. covertrussian
Turbo looks brand new, so at least it has that going for it, but it's probably rusted. Personal Opinion, I would buy it in a heart beat, but I'm mechanically inclined. If your not it could be a good learning ground, but realistically unless your willing to learn or pay someone money it wont get far. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
KRM
what a horrible site. on the good side its worth more than 500 to part it out if the inside doesn't look like the engine bay. hows the body, and what's the story on it being there? Moderators BarManBean Posted November 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2014 The more I look at it, the funnier it is. That thing is disassembled so haphazard it's crazy. Hmm...I'll take apart half the motor and then just leave the hood open... porsche5k
Like others have said, 500 is worth it just for the parts. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. How many miles are on the body?
Energyblue98
wow yes, $500?? you kidding? scrap metal alone would be around that. you could get $1000 by just parting at least. but most importanly, it would be a good shell to throw in some crazy build like a turbo H6 or something. gmentals
I would definitely jump on this. I paid $8500 for mine and, 6 months later, it needs a shortblock anyway..
Brian3676
Whoever took that apart had absolutely no idea what they were doing, but for $500, thats a killer deal.
Moderators BarManBean Posted November 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2014 Judging from the rust on the cam gears it's been sitting like that for a while. I would put this totally in the part out category--rebuilding would likely nickle and dime the hell out of you. travrach
This is crazy & sad..Its "apart " for a reason. Figure it needs an engine. OP can I buy that valve in that gray box? Worth parting...

R15
Is that a snake under the alternator? The dude that did this should be punched directly in the face. You can easily pull 1k all day out of parting it out then scrap if you're so inclined but you'll regret trying to make this a project.
