Chayser
Hey everyone, I am having trouble with my 1997 legacy, but cant figure out what the issue is. Whenever I shift from 1-2 and 2-3, I hear a grinding noise in between shifts. The same noise seems to happen with gears 1-3 if I rev up to around 3k or more, then while engine braking I can hear a grinding noise at higher RPM's. I read around and heard this might just be a normal sound with the subaru drive-train, but I find that kind of hard to believe. Personally, it annoys the shit out of me, so I am trying to decide on the right course of action. First time Subaru owner so looking for any advice on the matter. snederhiser
Hello; I would drain the transmission and see if the fluid is contaminated with metal shavings. You might be experiencing a bad clutch, throwout bearing, pilot shaft bearing, or not adjusted correctly. Steven.
Chayser
Yeah, I was planning to change the fluid when I get near my tools again. The clutch is definitely toward the end of its life, but if I decided to change the clutch, thought Id check around about anything else that might be causing this weird grinding. Thanks for the advice guys. Ill keep you posted if I find something when I drain it soon.
