Theyfzman
Ok I broke down and bought an oem O2 sensor it seems to be running smoother at idle which is good but it still threw a lean condition bank 1 ???? Not sure why with doing that smoke test that ruled out a vac leak at least I would of thought And I'm running oem plugs and I did gap ck them
Theyfzman
I did check all the connections especially the main engine harness What else would give me a lean condition ?? It seems like it only happens at idle
Theyfzman
Well there was a waste of $146 for the O2 sensor sti having the same issue Anybody interested in buying a nice legacy I'm so done with this !!!!! Been working on cars for 14 years and can't figure this out gettin old and about ready to unload this junk piece of Jap scrape I have no clue what else to try and am not sinking another dime into a sensor or something that won't work
apexi
Here's what subaru recommends doing for p0171 bank 1 too lean. I know an intake leak can cause this as you said you checked for, but I'm not sure how an exhaust leak could cause this to happen? Anyways, hopefully something here might help. Theyfzman
Still looking for input here's what it's doing now and I'm Really hoping someone has. A suggestion it's not throwing the misfire anymore but p0717 lean condition bank 1 and still idles a bit low 600 or under range and I'm pulling my hair out tryin to figure this out new front oem O2 sensor new MAF, plugs wires cool intake gasket, vac smoke test and no visible leaks so I'm about at wits end it's completely stock Here's my next thought give me yours please might try a diff throttle body, or fuel pressure reg and retry the smoke test any input would be GREATLY appreciated

programador23
I take Max advice, my master plug get burned some months ago, and after that it never connect enough tight, I use two tie-wrap on the conector, also re-route MAF sensor cables because they travel so close to cylinder heads, after that I haven't see the problem anymore. Max Capacity
Have you checked the local forums for a place to take it ? Sounds like someone need to spend time chasing wires that knows electrical. You do also know these cars 2.5i have a problem with burnt valves. Have you had a compression test done ? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. PhillyWilly
There is a shop in Pittsburgh that I often hear good things about but I don't recall the name. You can send a PM to "Code" He has mentioned the shop and would know.
R32
Wow. I pulled a P0171 code. Similar. CRAZY dirty air filter. CEL cleared. Code came back after 80 miles of stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. I'm in OC, so there's local Subie specialists. I don't expect this to be a big problem though. Theyfzman
Hi guys well bringing this back to see if anybody may have a thought here's what I've done lately took it to a shop that deals with forgien stuff they seemed to think it was a leaky EGR valve and a set of plug wires. So replaced those and nothing same thing lean bank 1, cyl 1 misfire here's a question is it possible to be a tooth off on my rt cam and it still run ok ? I changed the belt when I first got the car so I'm not sure if this issue was there prior when it's idling you can here a distinct tick coming from the area of cyl number 1 any help would be so very appreciated
travrach
Few ideas- 1. Have you checked for exhaust leak on that bank, a leak before the front A/F sensor will throw the reading off making it think its running lean. 2. TGV sticking on that bank. 3. Injectors not working properly on that bank? Try swapping them with other side. Can timing off on that cam cause it, mis-fire yes. Timing is not hard to check, pull side covers and line up crank mark on pulley and cover. I'd also check the OCV, I'd take that out and clean it, very easy to do. Also, what order do the codes list on the scanner- Is the mis-fire first or the lean code?
